Cody Rhodes Confirms New Deal With WWE – Cody Rhodes has officially committed to a new contract with WWE, solidifying his future with the company. Reports from Dave Meltzer towards the end of last year indicated that Rhodes had inked a new deal with WWE, with Meltzer specifying that the agreement was reached in October 2023.
Rhodes recently confirmed the contract renewal during an interview with Justin Walker of 8 News Now in Las Vegas. While Rhodes didn’t divulge the exact duration of the contract, he did reveal that it extends beyond his 40th birthday. Currently 38 years old, this signifies a significant commitment to WWE for the foreseeable future.
Previously, Rhodes had expressed intentions to retire from in-ring competition upon reaching the age of 40. However, in his conversation with Walker, Rhodes disclosed a change of plans, indicating that retirement is no longer imminent. Instead, he expressed a desire to gracefully step away from the ring when the time comes, although he remains uncertain about the specific timeline for his retirement.
When asked if he still planned to retire at 40, Rhodes responded:
I can tell you 40’s out of the question, just because – not to like give you a scoop because it was widely reported – but I did sign a new contract with WWE. And it extends beyond my 40th birthday.
However, I will say that the plan is still, when it’s time to step out, to step out without it being kind of a painful process. Solely because I saw my dad as an old-man wrestler. And he loved it – he enjoyed it, but as his son it was hard to see. And my daughter, she’s two going on three here shortly, there does have to be a time – just like he did with us – where I have to be home all the time and be there with her.
So it’s not 40 anymore, but – I don’t know, I’ll update the number. Plus, I hit this prime run late in the game. So I often forget that I’m nearing 40.
