Discontent Grows as The Rock Takes Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania Spot – Coming out of Friday’s episode of SmackDown, the WWE universe is abuzz with discussions surrounding the decision to pivot towards a WrestleMania 40 main event featuring The Rock versus Roman Reigns instead of Cody Rhodes challenging Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title.
According to reports, the change in plans came about within the last few days, with Dave Meltzer indicating that Rhodes versus Reigns was initially on the table immediately following the Royal Rumble. However, The Rock’s strong advocacy for the match between himself and Reigns seemingly influenced the shift in direction.
While the match has yet to be officially announced, anticipation is high for a potential unveiling at a press conference scheduled for Thursday in Las Vegas. However, the decision has stirred up a wave of discontent among fans, evident in the significant disparity in likes versus dislikes on WWE’s YouTube upload of the showdown clip. As of this writing, The Rock vs. Roman Reigns segment now has 65,000 likes and 235,000 dislikes.
Former WWE star Summer Rae also expressed her disappointment with the decision via a series of tweets, echoing the sentiments of many fans who had hoped for a showdown between Rhodes and Reigns.
