Jim Ross Praises Christian Cage as Top Heel in AEW

Jim Ross Praises Christian Cage as Top Heel in AEW – Jim Ross recently discussed Christian Cage’s career trajectory from WWE to AEW on his podcast, Grilling JR. Reflecting on Cage’s tenure in WWE, Ross suggested that Cage’s physical appearance might have hindered his prominence within the company. He expressed a belief that Vince McMahon’s preference for a certain ‘wow factor’ might have affected Cage’s push, noting that while Cage had talent, his stature might not have stood out enough in McMahon’s eyes.

Ross elaborated that in WWE, Cage’s physicality, except for his hair, didn’t capture attention the way someone like Edge’s taller frame did. However, Ross applauded Cage’s evolution, acknowledging that in AEW, he has thrived as one of the premier heels in the industry.

“His size [and] look didn’t do him any favors at certain points in his career. I know that my belief is that McMahon did not push him more because he didn’t like Christian’s look. It didn’t sell. It wasn’t the ‘wow factor.’ He wasn’t the guy, except for his hair, that could walk through an airport and be noticed. He fit in. Edge, being 6’4, stood out. So, yeah. Size had a big issue there, at times. He’s passed it now, thank God, for AEW. That’s why he’s one of the best heels in the friggin’ business.”

The AEW TNT Title match between Cage and Adam Copeland (Edge in WWE) on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite marks a significant moment. If the match is the main event, it would mark the first time in their 25-year wrestling careers that the childhood friends have headlined a televised program in a match against each other.
