Backstage News on MJF Wrestling Through Injury

Backstage News on MJF Wrestling Through Injury – MJF faced genuine injuries during AEW’s Full Gear 2023, managing to complete his matches despite the challenges. In the event, he participated in two bouts, teaming with Samoa Joe against The Gunns for the ROH Tag Team Title match and defending the AEW World Heavyweight Title against Jay White in the main event. Unfortunately, he experienced a real hip injury during the main event, requiring medical attention post-show. Additionally, he sustained a torn labrum in his shoulder.

Despite these injuries, MJF has opted not to take time off and forgo surgery to address the torn labrum. Instead, he’s exploring alternative treatments like stem cell therapy and rehab to facilitate his recovery. He remains committed to participating in his scheduled World Heavyweight Title defense against Samoa Joe at Worlds End later this month.

MJF is determined to stay present for upcoming TV appearances. He and Joe are expected to face two undisclosed opponents on next week’s Dynamite in preparation for their championship clash.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that MJF thinks he can get through this time by working carefully.

Meltzer wrote, “He won’t be getting surgery and is going to be working on stem cell therapy and rehab to get ready. Surgery would have put him out for a couple of months. Whether he will do a match between now and then is not known, but he believes he can do careful matches or smoke & mirror matches prior to the PPV.”

Notably, MJF had previously wrestled through a similar torn labrum injury when facing Jack Perry at Double or Nothing in 2020. This showcases his commitment to fulfilling his wrestling commitments despite physical obstacles.
