WWE Has Big Storyline Plan for Dragon Lee – Rey Mysterio has been sidelined with another knee injury that resulted in him undergoing surgery. WWE wrote him off television two weeks ago on SmackDown after Mysterio had been aligned with Santos Escobar and other members of the LWO, including Carlito, as of late.
To write him off, Mysterio had a disagreement with Escobar as Escobar felt Mysterio was siding with Carlito on a previous episode of SmackDown.Escobar turned heel and attacked Mysterio, laying out the WWE Hall of Famer. Mysterio is expected to be sidelined for several weeks due to the surgery.
This week, Escobar cut a strong heel promo about Mysterio, leading to him turning on the other members of the LWO before Carlito ran him off. They will meet in a singles match at Survivor Series.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted WWE is planning for Dragon Lee to get involved in the program. WWE has been high on Lee since he signed with them as they think he has big potential and the next Rey Mysterio, so they fast-tracked him to the main roster from NXT. Since his main roster arrival, he has been winning matches.
“Dragon Lee’s in a program that’s coming up that’s designed for him to become….essentially something with Rey. Well, not against not against Rey. The idea is for Rey to endorse this guy as the future,” Meltzer stated.
Meltzer added that there has been talk of calling up Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo to be aligned with Escobar for the program.
“Los Lotharios were one of the ideas was for them to join Santos. And actually, originally, before the Rey-Santos thing, there was talk of them joining with Rey. That’s definitely been in conversations.”
