Bryan Danielson Played a Factor in CM Punk’s Departure from AEW

Bryan Danielson played a factor in CM Punk’s departure from AEW following All In where he got into a backstage altercation. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that Punk was terminated by AEW following a quickly developed discipline committee.

Megha Parekh stepped back from a lot of her duties as Chief Legal Officer at the time of All In and had nothing to do with the committee.

Instead, there was a three-person commitment along with an outside attorney that included Danielson and AEW General Counsel Chris Peck, who assumed many of her responsibilities.

One source on the AEW roster called him an “appropriate moral compass who exemplifies objectivity” and “effectively headed up and was the face of the disciplinary committee.”

The top AEW star spoke to the roster when addressing them about Punk’s departure and called it a hard one as he cited the positives Punk brought to the company in addition to their longstanding friendship. However, Danielson felt it was the right decision to make.

This report came after a tweet by Danielson on Monday that noted, “My dad always told me, “The right thing is often the hardest thing to do. It won’t always make the most money. It won’t always be the most popular. But it’s still the right thing.”

Fightful was told that’s what Danielson said when speaking to talent at the meeting months before. Those they spoke with thought Punk knew Danielson was part of the committee.
