Backstage Update on CM Punk’s Brand Placement – A few day ago, we noted how there were discussions circulating about CM Punk potentially having the ability to work on both brands as a “free agent,” with the initial plan leaning towards positioning him as a member of the Monday Night RAW roster.
In an update, Mike Johnson of PWInsider and Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, reports that now Punk is listed as a “free agent” on the internal WWE roster. This categorization grants him the flexibility to appear on any of the WWE brands, rather than being tied specifically to RAW or SmackDown.
This isn’t entirely unprecedented, as WWE has previously utilized the “free agent” designation for certain talents. After the 2023 WWE Draft, several wrestlers, including Dolph Ziggler, Mustafa Ali, Baron Corbin, and others, were designated as free agents. Notably, superstars like MVP negotiated for Omos to have free agent status, and Brock Lesnar also negotiated similar terms, allowing them to appear across various WWE brands.
CM Punk’s classification as a free agent indicates that he has the autonomy to make appearances on any WWE brand, offering both creative opportunities and an element of surprise for fans across RAW, SmackDown, or even NXT.
