Backstage News On How Mercedes Mone Has Been Received In NJPW, Next Appearance Revealed

Backstage News On How Mercedes Mone Has Been Received In NJPW – As noted, Mercedes Mone dropped the IWGP Women’s Championship to Mayu Iwatani at Sunday’s STARDOM’s All Star Grand Queendom event. However, she will be sticking around in Japan.

Mone agreed to a contract extension with NJPW/STARDOM hours before the match took place, as Mone’s previous deal was expiring after the match. Her next appearance will be on May 21 at NJPW Resurgence in Long Beach, CA.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted Mone is well-received backstage.

“She was very well received backstage…..I heard nothing, but….she’s really trying to fit in. No complaints about doing the job here. No big league or whatever, she did not act like ‘I’m a big…a lot of times when American stars come to Japan, they act like they’re big stars. Less now, but in the old days, it was pretty prevalent. And she had none of that. She’s worldwide more famous than any of these women, but she did not come across like that at all. Very well received,” Meltzer stated.

Speaking of Mone, NJPW has now officially announced the former Sasha Banks for the Resurgence event on Sunday, May 21 in Long Beach, CA at the Long Beach Walter Pyramid.

Mone responded to the announcement and once again referenced Cousin Snoop, writing, “Get ready to roll up a nice BIG one! [fire emoji] [money mouth face emoji] #Moné #njresurgence”

The only match announced for Resurgence as of this writing is Will Ospreay vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi in a semi-finals match for the tournament to determine a new #1 contender to IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega. The match is up in the air due to Tanahashi’s rib injury. The winner of Ospreay vs. Tanahashi will advance to the finals to face Lance Archer at NJPW Dominion on Sunday, June 4 in Osaka, Japan. The tournament winner is expected to challenge Omega at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on Sunday, June 25 in Toronto, Canada.
