Rich Bocchini is notified by MLW that they’re back on the air following that unexpected interruption. We get ready for the final two opening-round matches for the 2020 Opera Cup. The first one is up next!
Opera Cup Opening Round: Laredo Kid vs. ACH
Laredo escapes to the back of ACH’s with a waist lock. ACH turns it around with a wristlock. ACH looks for the first cover in the match. Laredo Kid kicks out at 2. Quick offense ensues right after with a rollup from Laredo Kid. ACH kicks out. Laredo Kid fakes a shoulder tackle for a back kick. Laredo heads to the top rope with a missile dropkick. ACH rolls out of the ring. Laredo Kid drives himself out of the ring.
Both men make their way back into the ring. Laredo chops away on ACH’s chest in the corner. ACH blocks an enziguri with a punt off the apron. ACH connects a snap suplex on the outside before rolling Kid back into the ring. ACH drops a double stomp off the back of Laredo Kid. ACH plants Laredo Kid on his knee and looks for a cover. Laredo Kid kicks out at 2. ACH goes for another tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a near-fall of 2.
Laredo Kid connects a punt kick of his own. Kid comes off the top with a perfect crossbody. He continues the onslaught with two suplexes and a Northern Lights Suplex bridge. ACH kicks out again at 2. Kid spikes ACH before landing two moonsaults off the bottom and middle rope. Kid floats over for another cover. ACH, surprisingly, kicks out at 2.8. ACH rocks Kid with a huge powerbomb off the ropes for only a near-fall of 2.
Now, ACH toys with Kid with a set of chops. Laredo Kid rises to his feet. Both men trade forearms. Kid smashes his foot into ACH’s head with an enziguri. Kid sends him crashing onto the mat with a big cutter. That is still not enough to get ACH out of the match. ACH puts Kid away with the Spirit Bomb (brainbuster) and wins the match!
ACH moves on to the semi-finals of the 2020 Opera Cup.
Post-Match: ACH says that he’s f’n hungry for his next opponent in the tournament, who will be “Filthy” Tom Lawlor.
Speaking of Lawlor, he sends a message out from his home in Las Vegas to the MLW World Tag Team Champions Ross & Marshall Von Erich that they better watch their backs because his boys Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku are coming for them and their titles.
We take a look back at what happened to Alex Hammerstone last week, and the threats CONTRA Unit is sending out to all the champions in MLW. The Von Erichs address this tweet from CONTRA by issuing a shot at their belts to Samael’s dangerous group.
We briefly see the beginning of last year’s Opera Cup Tournament match between Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Low Ki before the show takes a commercial break.
In Mexico City, Salina de la Renta is taking care of both business and revenge to take care of. She sends Konnan a chilling message in Spanish.
We continue seeing more of Davey Boy/Low Ki’s match from last year.
Back to the ring now, we’ll see CONTRA Unit’s newest member Mads Krugger in action!
Mads Krugger vs. Ariel Dominguez
Ariel Dominguez runs around Mads Krugger to find where his weak spot is. Krugger takes Dominguez by his neck and pushes him across the ring. He then throws him into the turnbuckles. And he does it again. Dominguez ducks out of Krugger’s way but gets caught off the top rope. Krugger drops Dominguez face-first onto the mat with a powerful slam to gain his first in-ring victory.
Winner: Mads Krugger
Post-Match: Two masked men come out and put Ariel Dominguez in a body bag.
We see the end to Smith Jr. and Ki’s match, where Smith took the pinfall victory.
We look back at a confrontation that occurred between Richard Holliday and Gino Medina. In the back, Holliday sends a message to Hammerstone that he will continue dedicating his wins in the Opera Cup to him.
Next week, the Von Erichs will put their Tag Team Championships on the line against the World Heavyweight Champion Jacob Fatu and Simon Gotch.
Opera Cup Opening Round: Low Ki vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr.
Both men shake hands before they begin their matchup. DBS looks for Low Ki’s arm. Low Ki pushes him up into the ropes and backs up cleanly. Davey Boy puts Ki down on the mat. Ki floats on top for a near-fall of 2. Ki tries to wear down the legs of DBS with an ankle lock. DBS puts a tight hold on Ki with a side headlock. Ki’s shoulders hit the mat. He gets them up in time for a 2 count. Ki rolls DBS through with another near-fall of 2.
Both men make are back up. Ki continues his focus on Davey Boy’s knee with a dragon screw leg whip. Ki drops down on DBS’s injured knee. Davey Boy gets back up on his feet to connect a suplex in the center of the ring with another near-fall of 2. Ki lays a flurry of elbow strikes before DBS dumps him out of the ring.
Back in the ring, Davey Boy presses his boot into Ki’s fingers. He lifts him up for a brainbuster. DBS gets another near-fall at 2. He continues his offense by slithering in an armbar before a rope break is made. Ki wraps himself around Davey Boy with a crucifix pin at 2. DBS keeps targeting Ki’s injured shoulder by putting all his body weight on it with a leg drop. Ki counters with a roll through of 2.
DBS throws Ki across the ring with a devastating suplex. He only gets another 2 count on the former MLW Heavyweight Champion. Ki counters another suplex and turns it into a double stomp. Low Ki catches Davey twice in the forehead before locking in what looks like his Iron Octopus submission. DBS was so close to putting Low Ki away with a powerslam, but Ki kicked out at 2.8. Ki puts Davey in a dragon sleeper. Davey escapes the corner with Ki on his back. Low Ki rolls DBS over and picks up with a win from the 2019 Opera Cup winner.
Winner: Low Ki
Low Ki moves on to the semi-finals of the 2020 Opera Cup.
Davey Boy Smith Jr. congratulates Low Ki for his victory. Low Ki is ready for all the high-level opponents he’ll face as he continues in the tournament.
