Last week, Bryan Alvarez reported on Wrestling Observer Live about wrestlers privately saying that they do not want to go to Saudi Arabia for the Crown Jewel show on November 2nd.
Sports Illustrated picked up on the story on Monday in another wave of negative media attention for WWE over the Saudi association. The SI story noted the “discomfort” some of the talent are feeling about flying over there.
In response to the recent reports, WWE issued the following statement on Monday: “As always, we maintain an open line of communication with our performers, as we continue to monitor the situation.”
As of now, the show is still on the WWE schedule but it was interesting that there were no references to Saudi Arabia on Monday Night Raw. The Crown Jewel show was mentioned but, as noted earlier, the announcers were careful to never say “Saudi Arabia.” A commercial for Crown Jewel aired and it mentioned the date and start time with no references to Saudi Arabia.
