– WWE has announced the first two matches for the WWE Battleground pay-per-view on July 23rd from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
The first match is The New Day vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos. The Hype Bros failed to become new #1 contenders after losing a non-title match to The Usos on tonight’s SmackDown in San Diego. The New Day then confronted the champions and announced their rematch for next month.
Randy Orton vs. WWE Champion Jinder Mahal in a Punjabi Prison match is now official after SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon granted Orton his rematch on tonight’s SmackDown but allowed Jinder to pick the stipulation. He chose Punjabi Prison and called The Great Khali his personal hero.
– SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan has announced an Independence Day Battle Royal for next Tuesday’s July 4th edition of SmackDown. The winner will go on to face WWE United States Champion Kevin Owens at the July 23rd Battleground pay-per-view. We will keep you updated on battle royal participants but it looks like AJ Styles is in.
The also announced that The New Day will compete against The Usos in a rap battle.
