– This week’s WWE SmackDown, featuring the final hype for Sunday’s WWE Clash of Champions pay-per-view, drew 2.481 million viewers. This is down from last week’s 2.493 million viewers. SmackDown also the main event of Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kevin Owens advertised ahead of time.
SmackDown was #13 in viewership for this week on cable, behind two airings of CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Curse of Oak Island, Last Word, 11th Hour, Rachel Maddow, The Ingraham Angle, Hannity, All In, Tucker Carlson, The Story and Special Report. SmackDown was #6 in the 18-49 demographic, behind Anderson Cooper, NBA games on ESPN and Curse of Oak Island. Coverage of the special Senate election in Alabama dominated the night.
In comparison, Monday’s RAW drew 2.684 million viewers, down from last week’s 2.813 million viewers and the lowest number going back to mid-June. It beat SmackDown’s viewership by only 4.8%.
– While talking to Digital Spy, John Cena had the following to say on fans wanting him to turn heel:
“So many times in WWE, the audience tells me – at the top of their lungs – that they want me to change. But over the years I’ve learned that, if I change, they’ll just rag on me about something else. I’m never gonna please them and, at the same time, I would be turning my back on those that I care about. So it couldn’t have been a better situation for me to be involved with this movie.”
– Ryback joked on Instagram about the Kevin Owens – Sami Zayn segments on SmackDown Live last night where both men wore “Yep Yep Yep” shirts. Ryback noted that he wore it first, as seen below:
