Preparations for next month’s WWE Crown Jewel premium live event are moving forward amidst a tense backdrop, with reports indicating that WWE management is unhappy with employees publicly voicing safety concerns regarding the trip to Saudi Arabia.

As questions continue to swirl around the security climate in the region ahead of the November 7 event in Riyadh, tensions have spilled over behind the scenes regarding public commentary from non-wrestling staff members.

Management Demands United Front Amid Regional Uncertainty

Addressing the situation during an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that WWE leadership was displeased with non-wrestling personnel speaking openly about their reluctance to travel to the Middle East.

  • “I heard that WWE wasn’t thrilled that some of the employees, non-wrestlers, did actually talk about not wanting to go because they want that united front,”* Meltzer stated.

While support staff and non-wrestling personnel have faced scrutiny for vocalizing apprehension, prominent roster talent have remained completely silent on the matter. Meltzer pointed out that speaking out against corporate travel directives carries clear professional risks for active performers:

  • “And not one wrestler said a word, which doesn’t surprise me because if they did, there would be repercussions. It’d be stupid to do so. It’s not your fight. But I would expect that they can’t be thrilled about this.”

Contingency Plans and Diplomatic Pressures

Despite ongoing speculation and the recent postponement of other major international sporting fixtures in Riyadh—such as the Six Kings Slam tennis tournament, which was pushed back to December due to logistical hurdles—WWE has publicly maintained that Crown Jewel will proceed as scheduled at the Riyadh Season Stadium at King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD).

While industry insiders widely believe that WWE maintains a backup U.S. city on standby in case regional tensions force a relocation, company executives face severe diplomatic constraints preventing them from acknowledging any contingency plans. Discussing potential relocation publicly risks straining relations with key regional partners and government officials like Turki Alalshikh.

For now, WWE is keeping its focus fixed on the November 7 broadcast, with championship matches already locked in to headline the Riyadh spectacular.
