Jeff Cobb has opened up about his time working under a WWE banner as part of the MFT faction, revealing why wearing face paint proved to be far more frustrating than wearing a mask.
Speaking during an interview with SOTO619, Cobb was asked whether wrestling with face paint or donning a mask during his Lucha Underground days was more uncomfortable. The veteran star admitted that the paint was uniquely difficult, partly because management mistakenly believed it was part of his prior touring background in Japan.
“Because I was told, you’re going to wear the paint like you did in Japan, and I never wore paint in Japan. I think they got me confused with somebody else,” Cobb explained.
“Paint. Because I’ve never done that before. Although, to be fair, I’ve never done the mask thing before. But the paint was truly different.”
The Frustrations Of Application And Removal
While masks brought their own breathing challenges, Cobb noted that the real headache with face paint came down to the grueling preparation and clean-up routine. Finding the right materials and scrubbing off the pigment proved to be a constant hassle compared to simply pulling a mask off after a match.
“But yeah, paint was hard because I had to find paint. But, yeah, the paint was definitely the hardest just for the fact that, like, with the mask, I could put it on. I couldn’t breathe, but I could put it on, and then when I’m done, I could take it off,” Cobb stated.
To make matters worse, the removal process hit an unexpected snag when the specific cleaning wipes he relied on were pulled from shelves. “The paint took forever to get off. I had to use the wipes. Then I found out the wipes that I used got recalled.”
