WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has revealed how CM Punk took a strict, aggressive approach when addressing backstage issues during his previous stint as a locker room leader in WWE.
Speaking on the latest edition of his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T detailed a specific meeting called among the roster after a series of personal items—including iPads and wallets—began disappearing from the backstage area.
Diplomatic Speeches vs. Direct Threats
Booker T explained that leadership duties fell upon himself, The Big Show, and CM Punk to address the roster directly. While Booker T and Big Show attempted to handle the matter with a unified, diplomatic message, Punk chose a far more severe approach.
“He said something. And Big Show goes, ‘Look, guys, you know we’re family. We don’t do that. That’s not what we do here.’ And then I went, did my part. I said, ‘Guys, hey, look here. We’re family, all right? You know, just the way we do stuff here. We don’t do that, all right?’ And CM Punk was like, ‘If I catch you, you’re in trouble,’” Booker T recalled.
Booker T added that Punk’s intense reaction was unmistakable: “He probably wanted to kill them. Punk said, ‘If I found out who did it, your as is in trouble.’ We were the locker room leaders. I thought it was a diplomatic approach. You want to go from a diplomatic approach. And you want to try to find out who the culprit is.”*
Clarifying Cody Rhodes’ Alternate Locker Room Story
During the podcast episode, co-host Brad Gilmore brought up a famous version of a locker room meeting story previously shared by Cody Rhodes. In Rhodes’ version, the meeting was centered around wrestlers leaving trash in the locker room rather than thefts, culminating in Punk threatening anyone leaving garbage behind.
Booker T confirmed that the trash incident was indeed a separate event entirely:
- Theft Incident: Centered around stolen belongings, leading to the strict warnings issued by Punk.
- Locker Room Cleanliness Incident: A separate meeting addressing garbage left behind by roster members.
- The “Cody Lie” Legend: Gilmore noted Matt Cardona’s running joke about Rhodes giving exaggerated “fisherman’s versions” of real events, though Booker T laughingly confirmed that he did indeed throw trash on the ground during the cleanliness meeting as a joke.
