Booker T was asked about Matt Jackson no‑selling a 450 splash at AEW Redemption, but before giving any opinion, he made one thing clear — he hadn’t seen the spot. The question came during the super chat segment of his Hall of Fame podcast, and Booker immediately set expectations about how far he could go with his answer.
“I don’t know if he came up after that and gave the guy a superkick. If the person that wrote that comment could retort and just let me know, did he no-sell and come up and do a superkick? I’m just thinking off the top of my head. I didn’t see it or anything like that.”
Both he and his co‑host acknowledged on air that they hadn’t watched the show, joking about how the conversation might sound because of that. Even so, Booker T refused to criticize Jackson for the moment.
“But I wouldn’t be surprised, because the audience is conditioned to see something like that happen, and it’s something that’s very entertaining to them. And I can’t knock Matt Jackson doing something that he knows is going to make the audience happy, or they’re going to be entertained by it.”
Booker T says it’s a philosophical difference, not a flaw
Booker framed the broader issue as a difference in wrestling philosophy rather than a mistake or problem.
“They’re just different, man. Stuff they do in AEW, and I said it from the beginning, it’s like they’re doing wrestling in their own way. They’re kind of changing the game of the way wrestling was watched for many, many years, and they have the prerogative to do that.”
The one thing he admitted he doesn’t understand is AEW’s tag team structure.
“It’s just like the tag team matches where you see guys stay in the ring for 20 seconds and they do different moves on each other before the guy get out. Me personally, do I understand that? No, I don’t. But their core audience seem to like that kind of stuff.”
Booker T’s response ultimately avoided criticism and instead highlighted how AEW’s style differs from the traditional approach he grew up with. Whether fans agree or not, he made it clear he sees it as a matter of taste — not a matter of right or wrong.
