Heavy censorship on the August 31 taped broadcast of RAW has reportedly sparked internal frustration among WWE’s post-production team regarding creative freedom and broadcast restrictions.
The most prominent flashpoint occurred during the opening segment, when Royce Keys and OTM (Bronco Nima and Lucien Price) launched a parking lot assault on Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso. The Usos were left bloody, but Netflix censored the blood on the broadcast using heavy pixelation blocks. Similar broadcast edits occurred during a backstage attack involving Solo Sikoa, while an explicit expletive from Jacob Fatu was muted and shortened.
Internal Frustration Over Heavy Restrictions
According to a report from WrestleVotes Radio, members of WWE’s post-production department reportedly feel “handcuffed” by the restrictions placed on broadcast content by Netflix.
“WWE was aware of the parameters Netflix would be setting, but some internally didn’t expect them to be this intensive,” WrestleVotes reported.
The situation escalated when WWE management decided to bypass the broadcast edits. The decision to release the unedited, uncensored footage across official social media channels was reportedly unanimous internally.
“It’s worth noting that the decision to upload the unedited Royce Keys-Usos segment to social media was said to be unanimous internally,” the report noted.
WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, alongside Roman Reigns and The Usos, subsequently shared the raw, uncensored footage online to ensure fans saw the angle as originally envisioned.
Second-Guessing Taped Segment Placement
Joey Votes summarized WWE’s internal stance, noting, “WWE wants it out,” while adding that management felt “the fans need to see the real angle.”
The controversy has also led to internal second-guessing over show formatting. Sources questioned whether major physical angles should be saved exclusively for live broadcasts “when the episode was live and airing in real time,” preventing pre-broadcast editing.
