Backstage Update On Rusev’s WWE Absence & Medical Clearance Status

Details have emerged regarding the television absence of former United States Champion Rusev, clearing up online speculation surrounding his status following a recent match on Monday Night RAW.

Rusev has been absent from WWE programming since late July following a singles match against Je’Von Evans. While initial internet rumors claimed Rusev was unhappy backstage and stormed off following the bout, reports clarify that his abrupt exit was strictly due to a medical scare suffered during the match.

In-Ring Medical Scare & Concussion Protocol

During the match against Evans, Rusev landed awkwardly on his neck during a spot and immediately began experiencing numbness in his hands.

  • Refusing The Stoppage: The officiating referee reportedly offered to stop the match, but Rusev insisted on finishing the bout.
  • Post-Match Departure: As his symptoms worsened throughout the contest, Rusev quickly exited the ringside area immediately following the pinfall to seek medical evaluation.
  • Precautionary Measures: WWE medical staff placed him into the company’s concussion protocol as a standard safety precaution.

Illness Delays Return & Clearance Outlook

Following his initial medical evaluation, Rusev was granted a few weeks off before returning to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando to prepare for his in-ring comeback. However, his return was further delayed after contracting an undisclosed illness.

As of last week, Rusev was awaiting final medical clearance from WWE’s medical team. With his recovery progressing, the former United States Champion is currently slated to return to WWE television sometime in September.
