Roman Reigns Explains How Sharing The Ring With Him Elevates Talent Equity

Undisputed icon and WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns remains one of the most selective competitors in professional wrestling, reserving his rare in-ring appearances for high-stakes, marquee encounters.

Reigns made waves on the September 14 episode of WWE RAW in Mexico City, stepping onto red-brand television for his first non-PLE contest since January 2025. In a main-event clash, “The Original Tribal Chief” went 22 minutes against hometown favorite Penta before securing the victory to retain his World Heavyweight Title.

Speaking with Mark Elibert of Complex, Reigns reflected on what it takes for a performer to share the ring with him and how working with a star of his magnitude elevates an opponent’s standing:

“It’s one thing to have a match with me. It’s another to be the guy that we’re working towards to transition from me, or to use my equity to then put a rocket on that guy’s back. If you’re in the ring with me, your value’s going up. It sounds arrogant, but I don’t mean it that way. I just mean that if you get in the ring with me, you’re gonna get the very best Roman Reigns.”

Reigns added that any wrestler stepping across the canvas from him must already possess a distinct charisma and an established connection with the audience:

“You put them with someone like me, and I’ll be able to exploit it and then try to magnify and make it even greater. But they got to have that thing going for themselves already.”

Following his victory over Penta, Reigns was blindsided post-broadcast by LA Knight, who laid out the champion with a BFT. The confrontation led directly to RAW General Manager Adam Pearce making the blockbuster title defense official: Roman Reigns, who is set for a title match, will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against LA Knight taking place on October 10 at WWE Money in the Bank in New Orleans.
