AEW President Tony Khan paid for Will Ospreay’s entire neck procedure after the star suffered a severe injury in 2025.

Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show ahead of his main event match against Kenny Omega at Wembley Stadium, Ospreay confirmed that Khan picked up the medical bill, which exceeded the value of his home.

“I believe this house is like 420K, so it was more than that,” Ospreay said. “I saw that bill, and mate, I could not believe it. I’ve never seen anything like it before in my life.”

The financial coverage was initially disclosed during an AEW documentary series detailing Ospreay’s road back to the ring. Although Ospreay noted he had the personal funds to cover the expense, the gesture underscored the company owner’s commitment to roster welfare.

“I could have afforded it. I easily could have. But the fact that Tony done that for me speaks volumes of how much he cares about the talent,” he added.

Injury Timeline and Permanent Physical Adjustments

The physical issues originated during late 2024, starting with numbness in his hand that Ospreay initially attributed to routine strikes and mat bumps. Over time, the condition deteriorated to the point where standard bumps caused his arm to lose motor control. He officially learned the severity of the C2 damage via a phone call from his physician while visiting Epic Universe with his son.

Following the operation in September 2025, Ospreay endured a grueling six-week period of total inactivity. While he returned to active competition six months later, the procedure left lasting physical limitations:

Neck Mobility Restrictions: He experiences lingering difficulty bridging his neck backward.
Maneuver Retirement: He officially retired the shooting star press due to a loss of confidence in executing the movement safely.

Ospreay also addressed earlier creative plans, noting that when AEW selected Hangman Page over him for the 2024 world title direction, it worked out for the best. Had he won the championship, the onset of his neck issues would have forced an immediate title relinquishment.

Loyalty to AEW and All In: London Main Event

Khan’s financial support for medical procedures reflects a pattern previously noted by several AEW performers, alongside public contributions to independent wrestling relief funds. Ospreay highlighted this dynamic as a key foundation of his relationship with the promoter.

Before committing to AEW in 2024, Ospreay received a competitive offer from WWE. However, accepting that deal required moving permanently to the United States, whereas AEW permitted him to remain based in the UK while commuting for television tapings.

“We’ve got a lot of love and respect for one another, and I trust him,” Ospreay stated regarding Khan.

Ahead of his world title match at AEW All Im, Ospreay is aiming to push attendance beyond 50,000 spectators. His ring attire will feature a red-and-white design inspired by England’s 1966 World Cup squad as he seeks to become the first British wrestler to capture a major world championship on home soil.
