AEW star MJF has pulled no punches regarding Busted Open Radio, claiming the long-running show has transformed into a WWE “propaganda machine” following SiriusXM’s launch of the official WWE Radio channel.
Speaking during an appearance on the Sports Media Podcast with Richard Deitsch, the former AEW World Champion revealed that while he used to listen to the show regularly, he recently insisted on being removed from the program’s opening intro sequence due to its corporate alignment with WWE.
“It’s Not Real Journalism”: MJF Reacts to WWE Radio Expansion
When host Richard Deitsch brought up Busted Open Radio, MJF cut in before the question could be completed to clarify his current stance on the platform.
“Now, I did listen to Busted Open. As a matter of fact, I used to be a part of the intro. I am no longer part of the intro because unfortunately it is now a propaganda machine for one company. And that’s it.”
After Deitsch noted that Busted Open now operates under the broader WWE Radio umbrella on SiriusXM Channel 156, MJF expanded on his criticism regarding the program’s editorial neutrality:
“Yeah. It’s not real journalism.”
Respect for Dave LaGreca’s Success and Securing the Bag
Despite his harsh critique of the show’s current direction, MJF emphasized that his comments were not a personal attack on host Dave LaGreca. He recalled working with LaGreca early in his own career as an 18-year-old performer in Major League Wrestling (MLW), praising LaGreca’s journey from humble beginnings to building one of the biggest combat sports shows on radio.
“He grabbed that bag with both hands from WWE. He said, ‘Thank you, sir.’ And now it’s WWE Radio.”
While MJF stated he does not fault LaGreca for securing a lucrative business deal with WWE, he expressed skepticism that the show can accept corporate funding while maintaining unbiased coverage of AEW.
“Are you gonna hear them talk about AEW? Probably not. Are you gonna hear them talk about AEW ever again outside of saying, ‘AEW bad’? Probably not. Will they talk about MJF singularly? Probably. I’m too big of a deal to f***** ignore.”*
“Do I think it’s a little f***** funny that you’re running a show in Chicago the exact same time we’re running a show in Chicago? Yeah, a little bit.”*
Shifts in Coverage Leading Up to the Deal
MJF stressed that his main issue lies in media outlets claiming to remain neutral while operating under corporate sponsorship.
“You’re not gonna spit in my f***** face and tell me it’s raining. You’re not gonna tell me you’re WWE Radio, but we’re still gonna call it right down the line. That’s not a thing.”*
He further shared his personal observation that Busted Open‘s tone toward All Elite Wrestling shifted months before the official WWE Radio deal was announced to the public, noting a decline in coverage regarding positive business metrics.
“Did they magically stop doing that once they may or may have not realized they were gonna have a business dealing with WWE? Who’s to say, Dick? Who’s to say?”
“But is it something I noticed? Yeah, maybe.”
Though MJF stopped short of claiming WWE directly instructed host hosts to limit positive AEW coverage, he maintained that the shift in editorial perspective was noticeable.
