AEW star Luchasaurus provided a comprehensive update on his ongoing medical recovery during a recent appearance on the KFS Spotlight podcast, explaining why he will be absent from the upcoming AEW All In event at Wembley Stadium. The former TNT Champion revealed that he has undergone four separate surgical procedures throughout 2026 to repair major damage to both shoulders, his left meniscus, and his right elbow.
Four Surgeries in 2026 Rule Out AEW All In Appearance
Addressing his current physical status and his absence from the Wembley Stadium card, Luchasaurus confirmed that his recovery timeline remains dictated by the extensive repairs required on his shoulders.
“I’ll be watching AEW All In from home because I just had my fourth surgery of the year. I’ll be home nursing two shoulders, a left meniscus, and a right elbow. But I am on the path to return.”
“I had to get my rotator cuffs fixed, and they’re tendons. With a tendon, there is a specific timetable that you can’t beat no matter what, and that’s six months.”
“The second shoulder, this was done in February, this was done in April. So around the end of October, hopefully as long as it’s all healed right, I’ll be cleared to start exploring what a comeback looks like.”
The Origin of the Double Shoulder Injury on Dynamite
Luchasaurus has been sidelined from in-ring competition since December 2025. The severe injury occurred during the Dynamite Diamond Ring battle royal on the December 17 Holiday Bash episode of Dynamite in the United Kingdom, during a spot involving Shelton Benjamin and Ricochet.
“He threw Ricochet at me, and I caught him in a chokeslam. Somehow my shoulders went pop-pop.”
The appearance itself was a last-minute addition to the card. Luchasaurus was originally scheduled for a non-wrestling segment before AEW President Tony Khan asked him to join the match upon arrival at the venue.
“I was supposed to go maybe do a Santa Claus thing, but you have to be ready to wrestle,” he noted in May. “We get there and Tony is like, do you want to be in this battle royal? I’m not going to say no to the boss, who just flew me out here.”
He also candidly shared the personal circumstances surrounding that night, referencing the New York Knicks winning the NBA Cup the evening prior.
“When I got too excited because the Knicks won the Cup, I was drinking on the plane and up all night. I didn’t sleep. They finally won something. I waited 40 years for this.”
Both rotator cuffs were already compromised prior to the December incident. Luchasaurus originally sustained a partial tear in his rotator cuff during a 2022 match against Jack Perry and managed the condition for years.
“I partially tore the rotator cuff and worked through it. We did a PRP injection and band-aided it for a while. Four years later, they both went. It happened.”
Accelerating the Surgical Timeline Against Medical Advice
In an effort to shorten his overall time out of action, Luchasaurus opted to stagger his shoulder surgeries closer together than his medical team originally advised, electing against operating on both simultaneously.
“The surgeon wanted to wait six months, but we’re trying to do a faster timeline because we want to get back,” he said in May. “So I’m going to do the next one only three months after, which is a little scary, but I’m going to try. I really want to get back as soon as I can.”
“I wanted to do them both at the same time, but as soon as I got one done, I realized it would have been insane. It would have been a disaster.”
While initial projections targeted a return before the end of the year, subsequent procedures on his knee and elbow have kept his clearance date focused around late October at the earliest.
On AEW television, the company wrote Luchasaurus off storyline programming through attacks by The Patriarchy at Worlds End and the New Year’s Smash episode of Dynamite. Despite his in-ring absence, he has made sporadic on-screen appearances, including featured segments as Jack Perry’s personal bus driver.
This multi-surgery rehabilitation follows a previous major health scare in September 2024, when Luchasaurus was hospitalized with life-threatening double pneumonia after collapsing at home, leading to a year-long absence until his return at All Out 2025. Over the course of his AEW career, he has held both the AEW World Tag Team Championship and the TNT Championship, performing under both his signature mask and the Killswitch moniker.
