Kenny Omega Details Real Reason For Heel Turn Ahead Of AEW All In Match With Will Ospreay

Kenny Omega bringing back his infamous “Cleaner” persona ahead of AEW All In on August 30 was not simply an effort to mix up his character. Omega transitioned into a full-fledged heel because he believed it was the most effective way to provide Will Ospreay with the massive crowning moment their championship bout demands.

Omega made his turn undeniable on AEW Dynamite, launching a brutal assault on “The Aerial Assassin” that culminated in a One-Winged Angel through a table, followed by a scathing verbal attack.

Creating the Ultimate Hero’s Journey for Will Ospreay

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega increasingly gravitated toward a heel alignment throughout the build to All In. He felt a traditional hero-versus-villain dynamic was the best route for the narrative, aiming to deliver a match that stands the test of time while ensuring Ospreay’s potential victory carries maximum emotional weight.

By reverting to “The Cleaner” persona right before one of AEW’s premier events, Omega sought to give Ospreay an uncompromised villain to overcome. Given their acclaimed rivalry history, the story for this showdown relies on Ospreay securing a defining win over an uncompromising antagonist.

Omega is scheduled to defend the AEW World Championship against Ospreay on Sunday, August 30 at AEW All In, where the payoff to his character shift will be put to the test.
