Speculation surrounding Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson returning to the ring for WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia has hit a major obstacle due to upcoming Hollywood filming commitments.
WrestleMania 43, which will take place in either March or April 2027, marks the historic first time WWE’s flagship premium live event will be held outside of North America. Host officials in Saudi Arabia have reportedly expressed a strong desire to secure Johnson for a marquee match on the card. However, news regarding the production schedule for the final installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise may prevent him from stepping back into the ring.
Filming Conflicts and Training Constraints Pose Major Hurdles
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer analyzed how Vin Diesel’s recent reveal—that production on the final Fast film begins in December 2026—affects Johnson’s availability. Meltzer noted that while an in-ring match appears unlikely, a non-wrestling appearance remains possible if the financial incentives align.
“Him doing a match at WrestleMania would be out the window,” Meltzer stated. “I mean, could he fly to Saudi Arabia and show up? Of course he could.”
Meltzer emphasized that beyond the travel schedule, the primary barrier remains the physical preparation required to deliver a full-length match while concurrently shooting a blockbuster movie.
“The Saudis really wanted him to wrestle on that show next year,” Meltzer continued. “If they offer enough money, there may be a way. But I don’t know where he’s going to get time to train when he’s doing a movie like that. I don’t see him doing something in the ring without training.”
While Johnson has not made a WWE television appearance in quite some time, his potential involvement in the 2027 Saudi Arabia spectacle will ultimately depend on whether creative and production schedules can be reconciled.
