Carmelo Hayes Continues to Earn Strong Praise Backstage in WWE

Despite an inconsistent run on television, Carmelo Hayes continues to receive positive feedback from people backstage.

According to Fightful Select, the former United States Champion is viewed favorably within WWE. The report indicates that there are no known concerns about his professionalism or attitude, even though his current position on television has led some fans to question how the company sees his long-term potential.

Hayes has experienced several changes in momentum since moving into WWE’s main roster. His recent run has included periods of increased exposure as well as stretches where he has not been positioned as a major priority. That has created uncertainty among fans about whether WWE is ready to make him a consistent upper-card performer.

However, the latest report suggests that his backstage reputation is not responsible for his current position.

Carmelo Hayes Has Strong Reputation Behind the Scenes

Sean Ross Sapp was asked about how Carmelo Hayes is viewed backstage in WWE. Sapp said that he has not heard negative reports about Hayes from people within the company.

Instead, Hayes has reportedly been described in very positive terms, particularly when it comes to his professionalism, reliability, and potential.

“I’ve never heard anything about him being viewed negatively backstage. He’s always been referred to as dependable, professional, and with a lot of upside.”

Sapp also addressed a broader issue involving WWE’s handling of talent. According to him, the company can sometimes take too long to fully elevate wrestlers who have the ability to reach the next level.

“I think WWE definitely waits too long to pull the trigger on a lot of talent to their full potential, which is why people can develop longtime perceptions of wrestlers not being main eventers.”

That point could be particularly relevant to Hayes. Although he has already established himself as an accomplished performer, he has yet to receive a sustained run as one of WWE’s top stars on the main roster.

The report also discussed the difference between Hayes’ strong support during his time in NXT and his current position under WWE’s main roster leadership. Shawn Michaels was a major supporter of Hayes during his NXT run, but Sapp noted that being a favorite of Michaels does not automatically mean a wrestler will receive the same level of support from Triple H.

“He was a favorite of Shawn Michaels in NXT, but that doesn’t always translate to being one of Triple H’s favorites.”

Hayes has already held championship gold on the main roster. He previously carried the United States Championship for 98 days before losing the title to Sami Zayn in March.

More recently, Hayes received another opportunity to regain the championship when he challenged Baron Corbin on the previous episode of SmackDown. However, he was unable to defeat Corbin and capture the title.

For now, the available information indicates that Hayes continues to have a strong reputation behind the scenes. His current position appears to be more connected to WWE’s creative decisions and how the company chooses to use him rather than concerns about his professionalism or potential.

Fans will now have to wait and see whether WWE eventually gives Hayes the sustained push needed to establish himself as a regular upper-card or main event performer.
