Update On Sheamus WWE Departure, Post-WWE Name Revealed

As noted, Sheamus is expected to leave WWE once his current contract expires, following reports that he declined a restructured deal offered by the company. The situation gained more attention on Sunday evening when his profile was quietly moved to the WWE Alumni section on WWE.com, a move that often signals an official departure.

A new update has provided insight into why this decision may not come as a surprise internally. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that the situation reflects how TKO has approached roster spending since taking control of WWE. “I mean, if you look at the TKO [WWE’s parent company] situation, from talking to people there and in other situations, they are very willing to pay really, really giant money to people they perceive as stars, like a sports team, you know what I mean?” Meltzer said.

Meltzer noted that the approach shifts when it comes to veteran performers with higher salaries. According to him, TKO tends to prioritize investing in younger talent rather than maintaining large contracts for talent seen as past their peak. “But when it’s older wrestlers who they perceive as being on their downside and have big contracts, they’re very much like an NFL team. Rather than pay a guy a giant salary who’s on the downside, they’d rather spend their resources on somebody younger, who they can also pay less.”

Given that strategy, Meltzer said the reported contract offer made to Sheamus aligns with expectations. “So, the offer to Sheamus really doesn’t surprise me at all. He’s a guy I would have expected something like this to happen to.”

Outside of the contract situation, Sheamus has also made visible changes to his online presence. He has removed WWE references from his social media accounts and updated his X handle to reflect his real name, Stephen Farrelly, now listed as “S. Farrelly.” Similar updates have been made to his Instagram profile, further signaling a transition away from WWE branding.

Just days before news of his expected departure surfaced, Sheamus hinted at one goal that remains unfulfilled in his WWE career. On July 2, he shared a meme featuring a couple climbing the Empire State Building with a flag that read, “Give Sheamus the IC Title!” He has previously acknowledged that he has never won the WWE Intercontinental Championship, despite having multiple attempts.

That detail has continued to stand out among fans, as it remains the one major title missing from his list of accomplishments. With his WWE future uncertain, it raises questions about whether he will pursue that milestone elsewhere if he officially exits the company.
