A major stipulation has been announced for the headline match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The news was revealed during the July 17 episode of WWE SmackDown, where Gunther opened the show by addressing his upcoming tag team match. Gunther is set to team with Sami Zayn against Cody Rhodes and WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk.
Saturday Night’s Main Event Stipulation Changes SummerSlam Title Match
RAW General Manager Adam Pearce, filling in for SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, interrupted the segment and confirmed that the tag team match now carries major implications for SummerSlam.
If Gunther and Sami Zayn win at Saturday Night’s Main Event, they will be added to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at SummerSlam. This would turn the currently scheduled CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes bout into a Fatal 4-Way match for the title.
The announcement significantly raises the stakes for the Madison Square Garden showdown, as Gunther and Zayn now have a direct path to a championship opportunity on one of WWE’s biggest stages of the year.
WWE SummerSlam 2026 is scheduled to take place across two nights, August 1 and August 2, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
