WWE SmackDown Results – July 17, 2026 – Welcome to WrestlingAttitude’s live coverage results of WWE SmackDown on July 17, from the MVP Arena in Albany, New York.

We are live from the MVP Arena in Albany, New York, as Gunther makes his way to the ring to start the show.

GUNTHER’s music hits and he walks to the ring in Albany to a wall of boos. He grabs a mic and says they need to address the elephant in the room. His entire career, he’s prided himself on being a professional wrestler — but ever since arriving on SmackDown, he’s been mistreated. He says Nick Aldis might be jealous of him. He says he should already be the Undisputed WWE Champion. He says Aldis made things personal and forced him to team with Sami Zayn against CM Punk and Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event. GUNTHER calls Sami Zayn a bum and says Zayn is beneath him.

Adam Pearce comes out and says he’s heard enough. Pearce tells GUNTHER he should be thanking Nick Aldis no matter how he feels about him. Pearce says Aldis saved GUNTHER’s job. Pearce reminds everyone that GUNTHER attacked Cody Rhodes weeks ago, and then attacked Aldis. Pearce says if GUNTHER were on RAW, he’d already be fired. Pearce says Aldis made sure GUNTHER’s SNME match stays intact — including a stipulation. If GUNTHER and Sami Zayn win this Saturday, they get added to CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.

Cody Rhodes’ music hits and he marches straight to the ring. The moment he slides in, Cody shoots a double‑leg, takes GUNTHER down, and fires punches until GUNTHER scrambles out to the floor. Adam Pearce steps in, trying to calm Cody down.

Cody says GUNTHER is being handed yet another opportunity and asks where the logic is. Cody reminds him that GUNTHER kicked his head in inside a car — so of course Cody is going to beat him down on sight. Cody tells GUNTHER he won’t make it past Saturday night. It’s Friday, and the road to Saturday Night’s Main Event runs through Albany. Cody demands a one‑on‑one match tonight and asks Pearce to make it official.

Pearce grants Cody the match.

Rhea Ripley Medical Update / SummerSlam Implications

Earlier, Adam Pearce delivered an important update on Rhea Ripley’s medical status. He says Rhea is close to returning, but she will not be cleared in time to compete at SummerSlam. Because of that, Pearce announces there will be an Interim Women’s Champion.

Over the next two weeks, five women will have the chance to qualify for a ladder match. The winner of that ladder match becomes the Interim Champion and will face Rhea Ripley when she returns.

Finn Balor vs. Talla Tonga

Talla calls for a test of strength and forces Finn back into the corner, but Finn slips out and cracks him with punches. Talla blocks an Irish whip and sends Finn into the corner. Finn answers with a chop, then kicks at the back of Talla’s leg, but Talla drops him with a shoulder tackle and follows with kicks.

Talla launches Finn sternum‑first into the turnbuckles and lands a punch. He sits on Finn’s neck while chatting with the referee. Finn fights back with punches, but Talla shuts him down with another shot and lifts him for a slam. Finn escapes, pulls the ropes down, and Talla spills over the top to the floor.

Talla grabs Finn from the apron, but Finn punches free. Talla tries a chokeslam, Finn blocks it. Talla sends Finn into the turnbuckles again and hits a clothesline.

Talla picks up Finn and hot‑shots him on the announce table. While Talla and the referee talk in the ring, Tama blasts Finn with a clothesline on the floor. Finn struggles to get up but powers to his feet right before the referee reaches ten. Talla kicks Finn and chokes him. Talla fires a hard Irish whip and covers for a count of two. He goes back to the neck, sending Finn to the mat and choking him in the ropes. Talla clamps on a nerve hold and Finn fights to his feet. Finn breaks free with elbows. Talla hits a clothesline in the corner followed by another Irish whip. Finn tries to float over, but Talla catches him and hits a powerslam for a count of two.

Talla misses a splash in the corner and Finn unloads punches and kicks. Finn dropkicks the thigh and hits a GTR for a count of two. Talla gets Finn up for a Samoan drop, but Finn rolls to the apron. Finn hits a shoulder and a kick from the apron, then looks around and heads up top. Talla grabs Finn by the throat and goes for a chokeslam, but Finn counters with a DDT. Finn knocks Tama off the apron. Talla boots Finn in the head for a count of two.

Talla puts Finn in the ropes, hits a headbutt, then misses a boot and gets caught in the ropes. Tama distracts the referee and Finn yanks the rope to irritate Talla’s nether regions. Finn hits sling blade on Tama, then a running dropkick on Talla followed by Coup de Grace. Finn goes up top for a second one and gets the three count.

Winner: Finn Balor

Backstage — CM Punk, Adam Pearce, Damian Priest & R‑Truth

Adam Pearce is on the phone when CM Punk walks up and waits for him to finish. Punk asks about the stipulation for tomorrow’s match. Punk says he hates it and prefers one‑on‑one fights. He says GUNTHER is going to try to hurt Cody. Pearce tells him Cody wants his receipt. Punk says he’s going to talk to Cody.

Punk and Damian Priest cross paths and say hello. Priest appreciates the shout‑out and says he’ll be waiting for Punk if Punk wins at SummerSlam. Punk says he hopes Priest still has the tag titles because he and Cody will be coming for them.

R‑Truth shows up and asks Priest what they’re talking about.

Women’s Championship Video Packages

Jade Cargill says when opportunity comes, she takes her shot. She says you can’t see her when it comes to the title. They aren’t cut from the same cloth and none of them compare to her. She says she will win the title.

Nia says the other women should feel the pressure. She’s been to the top before and she’s ready to go back. She says she will be champion at SummerSlam.

Jacy says they shook the table when they arrived. The other girls are getting comfortable, so she’ll remind everyone who they are when she beats Tiffany tonight. Fallon and Lainey will win the titles tomorrow, and then she will win the ladder match at SummerSlam.

Tiffany says she will beat Jacy and then Minnesota will get to see her win a second title.

Tiffany Stratton vs. Jacy Jayne — Women’s Championship Ladder Match Qualifier

Jacy says something to Fallon and Lainey before the bell. Tiffany tries to fight off Fallon and Lainey for a moment, but Jacy joins in and the numbers overwhelm her.

Brie Bella’s music hits, stopping the attack. Brie and Paige rush down and take care of Fallon and Lainey. All four brawl to the back so the match can finally begin.

Tiffany blasts Jacy with a forearm the moment Jacy turns around. Tiffany follows with elbows and sends Jacy into the turnbuckles. Tiffany kicks at her, but Jacy fires back with a kick and throws Tiffany into the corner. Tiffany chops Jacy, Jacy answers with another kick. Tiffany hits a drop toe hold and Jacy falls into the ropes. Tiffany hits a running hip attack and gets a two count.

Jacy rolls away when Tiffany climbs up top, but Tiffany stops her from escaping the ring. Tiffany goes for a sunset flip, Jacy rolls through and kicks her. Jacy unloads punches and hits a back senton. She sends Tiffany into the turnbuckles and kicks her down. Jacy adds more kicks and chokes Tiffany in the corner as she takes control of the match.

Jacy has a few words for Fallon and Lainey before the bell. Tiffany tries to fight off Fallon and Lainey for a moment, but Jacy joins in and the numbers overwhelm her.

Tiffany kicks at her, but Jacy fires back with a kick and throws Tiffany into the corner. Tiffany chops Jacy, Jacy answers with another kick. Tiffany hits a drop toe hold and Jacy falls into the ropes. Tiffany hits a running hip attack for a two count.

Jacy chokes Tiffany in the ropes again, then hits a running back elbow for a count of two. Jacy whips Tiffany into the corner and hits a running hip attack. She snap mares Tiffany and kicks her in the back for another near fall. Jacy clamps on a rear chin lock. Tiffany tries to break free, but Jacy takes her back down. Tiffany hits a jawbreaker and punches, but Jacy chops her and gets another two count. Jacy drives elbows into the clavicle but misses a back senton.

Both go for crossbodies at the same time and crash to the mat. They trade forearms. Jacy hits a thrust kick, a front kick, and an enzuigiri. Jacy charges, but Tiffany hits a clothesline or two. Tiffany lands a back elbow and goes for the cartwheel, but Jacy blocks it. Tiffany still manages to hit the Alabama Slam. Tiffany climbs up top, but Jacy hits the ropes and crotches her.

Jacy fires forearms to the back and hits a hanging swinging neckbreaker for a near fall. Jacy misses a rolling elbow and Tiffany hits a handspring cutter. Tiffany follows with a Finlay Slam, then goes up top and hits the Prettiest Moonsault Ever for the three count.

Winner: Tiffany Stratton

Baron Corbin — Backstage Promo

We take a look at Baron Corbin. He says he’s been watching the shows and these people think they’re legitimately tough. Their reality is about to collapse. He says he’s the real deal. Trick is the first name on a long list. Melo was collateral damage and it was a message to the roster. He tells Trick to smile while he can and enjoy what he has. Corbin says he’s coming for it all.

Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes — Backstage

Jackie Redmond is in the back with Trick Williams. Trick says Baron Corbin jumped him and Melo, and he reminds everyone he’s the big man around here. Trick calls Corbin a big bald‑headed bitch and says he’s got a title with more hair on it than Corbin does.

Carmelo Hayes walks in and Trick immediately tells him he owes Lil Yachty an apology for what happened. Trick says Melo found a way to avoid defending the title against him because Melo knows he isn’t better than him.

Trick asks Melo how long he’s been on SmackDown and what he’s done. He says the answer is absolutely nothing. Trick tells Melo to take some notes and mind his business while grown folk talk.

Nia Jax vs. Jade Cargill — Ladderless Qualifier for the WWE Interim Championship

Jade misses a bicycle kick and Nia hits a Samoan drop followed by a leg drop for a count of two. Nia climbs the turnbuckles and Michin tries to distract her. Nia misses a leg drop off the ropes and Jade answers with a spinebuster.

Charlotte Flair suddenly attacks Fab and Michin, drawing Jade’s attention. Flair boots Jade, and the referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Jade Cargill (by disqualification)

After the match, Flair puts a chair on Jade’s arm, but Michin and Fab pull Jade to safety. Nia is furious about the chaos and splashes Flair. Nia leaves, and Jade returns to the ring to hit Jaded.

Backstage — GUNTHER, Jackie Redmond, Candice LeRae, Johnny Gargano & Blake Monroe

Jackie asks GUNTHER about the stipulation for tomorrow’s tag match. GUNTHER says Cody is the typical golden boy who forces his way into his business. Cody acts on emotion, and GUNTHER says he will knock some rationale into him. He says he doesn’t care about Sami but he will win tomorrow and compete at SummerSlam.

Candice and the physical form of Johnny Gargano walk up. Candice reminds GUNTHER that Sami would be in the SummerSlam match if they win tomorrow. GUNTHER tells Candice to tell Sami to show up, shut up, and not get in his way.

Blake Monroe attacks Candice from behind and sends her into the storage cases. Blake introduces herself to Candice and says she’ll see her around. Blake looks at Johnny and tells him he needs a haircut.

Nia Jax & Lash Legend — Backstage with Adam Pearce

Nia and Lash are arguing at Pearce, demanding consequences for what happened. Nia says Charlotte Flair ruined the match so badly that she can’t even speak.

Pearce tells Nia she’ll get another chance to qualify — and it will be against Charlotte Flair.

Axiom & Nathan Frazer vs. The War Raiders

Frazer and Erik start things off. Erik hits a few waist‑lock takedowns, then whips Frazer into the corner. Frazer floats over and flips into a victory roll for a close call. Erik answers with a running forearm. Ivar tags in, crushes Frazer with a corner clothesline, and Erik follows with a forearm. Ivar hits lawnmower elbows, then sends Frazer into the turnbuckles so Erik can tag back in. Frazer throws punches, but Erik shuts him down with a knee to the ribs and a forearm. Frazer lands on his feet off a throw and hits an enzuigiri. Axiom tags in. Axiom and Frazer fire forearms. Frazer plants Erik with a DDT, and Ivar joins Erik on the floor. Erik and Ivar catch Frazer on a suicide dive, but Axiom wipes them out with a moonsault.

Erik blasts Axiom with a forearm and Ivar tags in. They both unload punches on Axiom. Erik tags back in. Ivar slams Axiom, then Erik slams Ivar onto him for a two count. Erik punches Axiom and tags Ivar again. Ivar knees Axiom, then Erik adds another knee to the midsection. Erik clamps on a front facelock. Axiom tries to rise, but Erik whips him into a forearm from Ivar. Erik applies a guillotine and Axiom fights to escape. Axiom breaks free with punches, but Erik keeps him from tagging. Erik whips Axiom again, but Axiom hits a forearm on Ivar and slips past Erik to make the tag.

Frazer hits a forearm, flips over Erik, and lands sling blade. Frazer hits a Shining Wizard. He goes up top for a Phoenix Splash, but Erik moves and hits a dropkick. Ivar and Axiom tag in. Axiom throws punches, but Ivar plants him with a spinning powerslam.

Ivar stacks Axiom on top of Frazer for a moonsault, but he misses. Erik charges and runs into a double superkick. Axiom kicks him, Frazer tags in, and hits a springboard 450 for a close call. Axiom tags back in. Ivar clotheslines Frazer, then catches Axiom, but Axiom slips free. Ivar blasts him with the spin kick of doom. Erik tags in and runs Ivar into Axiom in the corner. Erik hits a uranage for a count of two until Frazer makes the save.

Ivar tags in. Axiom sweeps Ivar’s leg and kicks Erik. Frazer tags in, then Axiom tags again. Frazer misses a suicide dive. Axiom sends Ivar into the announce table. Frazer hits a flip dive onto Erik.

Ivar kicks Axiom, but Axiom kicks back to stop Ivar on the turnbuckles. Frazer tags in and they hit a double superplex. Frazer goes up top for a Phoenix Splash and connects, but Erik breaks it up with a knee. Erik tags in and Axiom does too. Axiom strikes, but Erik hits a kick and forearm. Ivar tags in. Erik hits a full nelson backbreaker and they follow with a pop‑up toss powerslam to Frazer. Erik and Ivar hit Ragnarok for the three count.

Winners: Erik and Ivar

Cody Rhodes & CM Punk — Locker Room

Cody is in the locker room when Punk walks in. Punk asks why Cody chose GUNTHER. Cody says Punk should understand. Punk asks if it’s a good idea. Cody says it isn’t. Punk says he’ll go out there and watch Cody’s back. Cody tells Punk to watch on the monitor and enjoy.

Danhausen — Backstage Lair Interview

Jackie steps into Danhausen’s lair and asks him about his match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. She wants to know who’s going to help him. Danhausen says he has a secret weapon. He reveals he has a cat, because if you cross a cat, you are cursed.

They leave the lab just before the television explodes.

Cody Rhodes vs. GUNTHER

Cody attacks GUNTHER from behind and they brawl in the aisle. Cody sends GUNTHER into the apron and then into the ring steps. Cody whips GUNTHER into the barricade and then into the announce table before finally sending him into the ring.

The referee starts the match and Cody fires punches. Cody lands on his feet on a belly‑to‑back suplex attempt. GUNTHER stops a springboard move by shoving Cody to the floor. GUNTHER breaks the count and goes out after him. GUNTHER hits a back‑drop driver onto the apron. He follows with a chop and a slap. Cody chops back, but GUNTHER hits a hard Irish whip and another chop. Cody tries for a slam, but GUNTHER blocks it and chops him again. GUNTHER punches Cody and chokes him in the ropes. GUNTHER hits a forearm to the back. Cody kicks him and tries the slam again, but collapses under GUNTHER’s weight, and GUNTHER gets a count of two.

GUNTHER clamps on a top wrist lock and backs Cody into the ropes before hitting a back elbow. He follows with a chop and knees to the midsection, then another chop. GUNTHER goes for a belly‑to‑back suplex, but Cody lands on his feet. GUNTHER catches Cody off the ropes on a springboard attempt, but Cody fires back with a Cody Cutter and punches. Cody hits a running forearm, floats over, and lands a powerslam. Cody connects with Beautiful Disaster and then another Cody Cutter.

Cody sets for CrossRhodes, but GUNTHER snap mares him and chops him down. GUNTHER whips Cody and blocks a kick. He kicks Cody in the hamstring, then kicks the back of the leg again. GUNTHER drags Cody to the corner and wrings the leg into the ring post.

CM Punk’s music hits and he comes to the ring to check on Cody.

Gunther mocks Punk and lifts Cody onto his shoulders, but Cody slips out and both men hit clotheslines, dropping each other. They get back up and trade punches. Gunther kicks, then chops. Cody avoids another chop and fires jabs before landing the Bionic Elbow. Cody goes for a Pedigree and hits it, but his injured knee flares up. GUNTHER chops him and hits a power bomb for a count of two. GUNTHER applies a single‑leg crab. Cody reaches for the ropes, but GUNTHER drags him back to the center. Cody kicks free. GUNTHER misses a Yakuza Kick and gets his leg caught on the turnbuckles. Cody kicks the leg and hits a dragon screw. Cody goes for a figure‑four.

Sami Zayn comes through the crowd and attacks Punk. Sami sends Punk over the announce table. Cody releases the hold as GUNTHER reaches the ropes. Cody sees Sami, and Gunther grabs a sleeper. Cody breaks free and hits a suicide dive onto Sami. Cody punches Sami, but Sami pulls Cody off the apron. The referee calls for the bell.

Winner: Cody Rhodes (by disqualification)

Punk hits a clothesline off the announce table onto Sami. Punk and GUNTHER trade punches while Sami and Cody do the same. Officials rush in and try to separate all four as the show goes to credits.

WWE SmackDown Preview – July 17, 2026

Tonight’s episode focuses on the fallout from Gunther’s attack on General Manager Nick Aldis. Aldis had already been on administrative leave after an earlier altercation with Gunther at Night of Champions. Gunther has been on a collision course with the GM after each loss to either Cody Rhodes or Sami Zayn with the WWE title on the line. Last week, things finally exploded when Gunther and Aldis came to blows. The situation now hangs over the entire show.

Cody Rhodes and reigning Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk are set to team together at Saturday Night’s Main Event. They face the pairing of Gunther and Sami Zayn. Both Rhodes and Punk are advertised to address the match tonight on SmackDown. Their dynamic has shifted several times in recent weeks, and with Gunther and Zayn on the other side, the tension only grows.

The only confirmed match at the time of writing is Finn Balor continuing his rivalry with the disbanded MFT, Tama and Talla Tonga. Balor tried to bring Tama back into the Bullet Club OG fold, but Tama revealed that his Elders advised him to burn the past. Balor beat Tama in singles action last week. Tonight, he looks to repeat that success against Tama’s much taller brother, Talla Tonga.
