Jim Ross has addressed the criticism surrounding SummerSlam’s ticket sales, and the WWE Hall of Famer made it clear he doesn’t understand the outrage. His comments add another angle to the wider reaction to SummerSlam’s ticket sales that has been building in recent weeks. Speaking on the latest episode of Grilling JR, Ross said the complaints feel more like people searching for something to complain about rather than offering meaningful analysis.
Ross didn’t hold back when asked about the backlash.
“I don’t either. Just something to bitch about. People look for new things to bitch about, Conrad, and I think it’s topical and timely and insightful and all that s*. It’s just, it’s crazy.”
He added that the conversation has become so unclear that he no longer knows how success is even defined.
“I hope they do well. And I don’t know what’s well. I don’t know what’s a success anymore, and what isn’t. Is a non-sell out a success? It depends on the number, and how many bodies, how many are every 18 inches.”

Ross also discussed whether he prefers arena shows or stadium events, and he didn’t hesitate to choose indoor venues.
“As a fan, I prefer the arena shows.”
He explained that the atmosphere and comfort level make a big difference for him.
“I like the indoor shows a little bit better just for the feel, the emotion, the texture of the event. The indoor show suits me a little bit better, and it’s more comfortable for us old timers.”
When it comes to outdoor shows, Ross said the weather factor simply isn’t worth stressing over.
“Yeah, you can’t stress over things you can’t control. I said that for years, and I was being guilty of that for most of my professional life, that is worrying about things I have no control over. The weather is prominent in that list.”
Ross is in Minneapolis this weekend for WrestleCon and noted that the city has deep wrestling roots.
“I’ve never done an appearance in Minneapolis before. It’s an old school wrestling hub… that was the headquarters of the AWA for many years… a lot of them are second and third generation fans and have been all the way back to the Verne Gagne days in the AWA.”
He also commented on the number of wrestlers and personalities in town for SummerSlam weekend.
“I’ve never seen as many stars converge in one place in a long time. Maybe never.”
