Buddy Matthews may have just hinted at something big ahead of AEW Redemption, posting a cryptic message that has quickly caught fans’ attention.
The AEW star shared a black-and-white photo on social media shortly before the event in Montreal, accompanied by a message that strongly suggests a potential return or involvement.
Buddy Matthews Redemption Tease Sparks Speculation
“They left me in the darkness, convinced I’d never find my way. Redemption was waiting where they stopped looking.”
The wording immediately raised eyebrows, especially given the timing. With AEW Redemption taking place the same night, Matthews’ use of the word “Redemption” has fueled speculation that he could appear during the show.
Matthews recently confirmed he has been medically cleared to compete after a lengthy absence. He previously wrote: “The Devil signed the clearance. Hell stamped its approval. No more barriers. Only timing.”
Return Nears After Long Injury Layoff
The injury dates back to February 2025 during his entrance at Grand Slam: Australia. Matthews initially attempted to continue before eventually undergoing surgery. However, nerve damage and numbness extended his recovery period significantly.
Despite the setbacks, he remained focused on returning. “Worked through the setbacks. The comeback will speak for itself.”
Earlier this month, Matthews appeared at a World Series Wrestling event but noted he had not yet received full medical clearance at the time. Now cleared, he is already advertised for upcoming tours later this year.
AEW Redemption Card Already Stacked
AEW Redemption features several high-profile matches, including Kenny Omega defending the AEW World Championship against Kevin Knight, Thekla taking on Willow Nightingale, and Adam Copeland teaming with Christian Cage against PAC and Claudio Castagnoli. Chris Jericho is also set to revive his Painmaker persona against Tommaso Ciampa.
Still, Matthews’ timing is difficult to ignore. Whether it is simply a symbolic message about his comeback or a genuine tease for an appearance, his post has added another layer of intrigue to the event.
