Maya World celebrated her birthday in unforgettable fashion at AEW Redemption 2026, defeating Hikaru Shida to win the TBS Championship. The victory marked her first title in the company and capped off a strong rebound after coming up short in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament finals.
Shida dictated the pace early, cutting off Maya’s offense and countering a Tope Suicida with strikes on the apron. The champion’s experience was evident as she controlled the match and limited the challenger’s momentum. Maya responded by taking risks, landing a crossbody to the outside before bringing the action back into the ring for an early near fall.
The champion regained control with a Stretched Muffler on the ropes and continued to apply pressure. Maya fought back with a head scissors, but Shida quickly turned things around with a poke to the eye and a tight roll-up. A key moment came when Maya attempted a sunset flip powerbomb from the apron, only for her injured leg to give out and halt her momentum.
Despite the setback, Maya stayed in the fight. She strung together several near falls, including a stomp and a well-timed moonsault, while visibly dealing with the leg injury. Shida answered with a single-leg Boston Crab and a Meteora, keeping the challenger on the defensive as the match intensified.
The closing stretch saw both competitors exchange heavy offense. Maya connected with running knees and a Shining Wizard, forcing Shida out of the ring. A brief distraction involving a kendo stick allowed Maya to dive onto the champion with a Tope Suicida and regain control.
Back inside, Shida hit the Katana and followed with a Falcon Arrow, but Maya managed to survive both attempts. In the final sequence, Maya countered Shida’s attack and delivered a Bridging Fallaway Slam to secure the pinfall.
The win gives Maya her first championship in AEW and establishes her as a key figure in the women’s division moving forward.
