The status of a potential WrestleMania 42 match between IYO SKY and Asuka remains unresolved, despite ongoing teases from both performers in recent weeks.
During ESPN’s Get Up, Joe Tessitore revealed the official lineup for WrestleMania 42, confirming seven matches for Night 1 on April 18 and six for Night 2 on April 19. However, the anticipated SKY vs. Asuka bout was not included, raising immediate questions about its status.
The situation gained more attention after SKY publicly called out Asuka on social media the night before the announcement, directly referencing Las Vegas and signaling her intent to face her former Damage CTRL ally at the event.
There is a specific reason the match has not yet been made official. The decision is tied to the health of Nikki Bella and her availability for the Women’s Tag Team Championship match.
If Nikki Bella is not medically cleared to compete alongside Brie Bella, then Asuka and Kairi Sane are expected to take their place in the scheduled four-way tag team match. In that scenario, Asuka would not be available for a singles match against SKY.
However, if Nikki Bella is cleared to compete, then the plan is for IYO SKY vs. Asuka to be officially added to the WrestleMania 42 card. This creates a direct dependency between two separate matches, delaying confirmation until Bella’s condition is fully evaluated.
Nikki Bella was recently seen wearing a walking boot following a late-March episode of SmackDown. Although she indicated she expected to return within a week, WWE has not provided an on-screen medical update confirming she has been cleared.
This uncertainty has left WWE in a holding pattern. If Asuka is moved into the tag team match, it is currently unclear what direction WWE will take for IYO SKY at WrestleMania 42.
With the event fast approaching, a final decision is expected soon. Until then, the potential singles match between SKY and Asuka remains in limbo, dependent on medical clearance rather than creative direction.
