The landscape for All Elite Wrestling’s media distribution has become significantly clearer as the focus shifts toward a massive streaming consolidation. Following the news of Paramount Skydance’s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, a plan is now in place—pending regulatory approval—to merge the Paramount+ and HBO Max platforms.
This transition is pivotal for AEW. Currently, HBO Max serves as the digital home for AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision, while also hosting the company’s event archives and offering pay-per-views for purchase. Should this merger finalize, AEW content would likely be integrated into a unified global platform with a vastly expanded reach.
During a recent investor call, Paramount CEO David Ellison detailed a vision centered on scale and global competition. “We will combine the streaming portfolios of the two companies into one stronger platform over the coming years,” Ellison stated. He noted that the combined entity would reach more than 100 countries and territories. “There are more than 200 million subscribers today, and more than 100 countries and territories worldwide, positioning us to compete effectively with the leading streaming services in today’s marketplace,” he added.
Ellison emphasized that this move is designed to challenge the industry’s most established players. “As we said, we do plan to put the two services together, which today gives us a little over 200 million direct to consumer subscribers. We think that really positions us to compete with the leaders in the space,” he explained. He also highlighted Paramount’s ongoing technical efforts, noting: “At Paramount, by the middle of this year, we’ll have completed the consolidation of our three services under one unified stack, and you can see us taking a similar approach to this platform going forward. And we think the combined offering, and given the amount of content and what we can do from the tech side, really will put us in a position to be able to compete with the most scaled players in DTC.”
Crucially for wrestling fans, Paramount’s acquisition includes the cable assets of Warner Bros. Discovery, such as TBS and TNT. This ensures that AEW maintains its traditional linear television presence, a sharp contrast to previous discussions with other streaming giants that showed no interest in acquiring cable channels. While AEW’s current media deal is set through 2027, this merger introduces a significant new trajectory for the promotion’s long-term home.
