AJ Lee Wins Women’s Intercontinental Championship – AJ Lee defeated Becky Lynch to win the Women’s Intercontinental Championship at WWE Elimination Chamber from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
The match began with a collar-and-elbow tie-up. Becky backed AJ into the corner and gave a clean break. Becky took control with a side headlock and a shoulder tackle. She taunted AJ while hanging on the ropes. AJ answered with a standing switch and a leg sweep for a near fall. Another quick roll-up nearly ended the match. Becky tried to apply the DisArmHer, but AJ countered and kept the pace fast.
AJ grounded Becky with a hammerlock and a bridge. Becky escaped and sent AJ to the floor. On the outside, both women traded control near the barricade. Back inside, Becky used the referee as a shield to land a cheap kick. AJ responded with a dropkick and several counters that kept Becky off balance.
Becky slowed the match down with strikes and corner offense. She hit an exploder suplex for a two-count and continued to target AJ’s back and arms. AJ fought back with a bulldog and a tornado DDT. A Shining Wizard from the ropes brought her close to victory.
The action intensified late in the match. Becky exposed a turnbuckle pad, but AJ avoided being driven into it. Becky delivered a superplex and later locked in an armbar, but AJ refused to quit. After several near falls, chaos followed when the referee was knocked down.
AJ applied the Black Widow, and Becky tapped out, but the referee was still down. Becky attacked from behind and introduced a steel chair. She hit a DDT onto the chair and followed with a Man Handle Slam, but it was not enough.
In the final sequence, Becky accidentally struck the exposed turnbuckle. AJ immediately locked in the Black Widow again. This time, with the referee conscious, Becky tapped out. AJ Lee secured the submission victory and left Chicago as the new Women’s Intercontinental Champion.
