WWE Scrapped Original Plans for Bron Breakker’s Royal Rumble Win – Bron Breakker was at one point slated for a major breakthrough moment, with internal plans reportedly calling for him to win the 2026 Royal Rumble and headline WrestleMania 42. However, a series of injuries and creative decisions ultimately reshaped WWE’s direction heading into its biggest event of the year.
According to F4WOline, the initial strategy changed following Seth Rollins’ injury at Crown Jewel. WWE then mapped out a long-term plan centered on Breakker’s rise to the top of the card, beginning with a high-profile loss and building toward a championship victory at WrestleMania.
“The injury to Rollins caused changes, as they went with Punk as champion with the idea of a three step program with Bron Breakker getting a title match on the Raw Netflix anniversary show and losing, coming back and winning the Rumble and then facing and beating Punk for the title at Mania,” Dave Meltzer wrote.
That direction did not hold. The creative landscape shifted again as plans around the WWE Championship evolved, particularly involving Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes.
“Enter McIntyre, who pushed the idea that since he had lost multiple times to Rhodes, that it would be better for him to win the title in the already announced Three Stages of Hell match,” Meltzer reported. “Rhodes was on board with that idea.”
With McIntyre positioned as champion and WrestleMania’s main event picture leaning toward Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk and McIntyre vs. Rhodes, the company moved away from the original plan to have Breakker win the Royal Rumble.
“When the decision was made, they had to scrap Breakker winning the Rumble and the choices were either Rhodes or Reigns,” Meltzer concluded.
Breakker, who was set to enter the Royal Rumble at No. 2, was blindsided by a hooded attacker on his way to the ring. The unidentified assailant dropped him with a superkick and a stomp, leaving him unable to even get started in the match. Breakker was then tossed into the ring, where Oba Femi quickly eliminated him.
The reported pivot highlights how quickly WWE’s long-term creative direction can shift due to injuries, talent input, and evolving championship plans. While Breakker’s planned coronation did not materialize, the early consideration underscores the company’s confidence in him as a future main-event level performer.
