Charlotte Flair Pushed for Change to Original WWE SummerSlam Match – New updates have surfaced regarding WWE’s SummerSlam 2025 card, offering further clarity on some of the top women’s matches scheduled for the two-night premium live event.
According to Bryan Alvarez of F4Wonline.com, the Women’s Intercontinental Championship match featuring Becky Lynch vs. Lyra Valkyria is officially slated for Night One of SummerSlam, taking place on Saturday, August 2. This title bout was first teased weeks ago when Valkyria called out the former multi-time world champion. WWE has since built up the feud across RAW and SmackDown, positioning Valkyria as a strong, confident challenger looking to make her mark.
Meanwhile, a previously rumored singles match between Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss has reportedly been scrapped. Alvarez reports that Flair personally requested that their tag team not be split up. WWE ultimately agreed and pivoted plans. Instead of competing in a singles match, Flair and Bliss will now challenge Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships during SummerSlam weekend. This change reflects WWE’s continued emphasis on rebuilding the women’s tag division, which has gained momentum with new pairings and consistent TV time.
The event’s women’s card is shaping up to be one of the strongest in recent memory. In addition to the matches mentioned above, fans can expect two major championship defenses:
- Naomi will defend her WWE Women’s World Championship in a triple threat match against Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY.
- Tiffany Stratton will put her WWE Women’s Championship on the line against Jade Cargill.
With four high-profile women’s matches, SummerSlam 2025 promises to showcase the depth and strength of WWE’s female roster across both nights.
