AJ Styles Rumored for Surprise Return at TNA Slammiversary – A major return could be on the horizon at this weekend’s TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view, as speculation is heating up around the possible appearance of “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles. According to a new report from PWInsider, there has been growing chatter within WWE regarding Styles making a one-night return to the company where he made his name.
The buzz began after TNA President Carlos Silva recently described Slammiversary as “Phenomenal” in a promotional interview, a word choice that quickly caught the attention of fans due to its clear association with Styles’ longtime nickname. The tease comes as the event nears, scheduled for Saturday, July 20, at the UBS Arena in Long Island, NY.
Further speculation was fueled by current TNA World Champion Trick Williams, who is also a top NXT star under the WWE banner. In a recent interview, Williams specifically named AJ Styles as the main roster talent he most wants to face, adding more intrigue to the possibility of Styles stepping into a TNA ring once again.
PWInsider’s report claims that while TNA sources did not confirm Styles’ participation, WWE sources have acknowledged that internal discussions have taken place regarding his potential involvement. The timing of Silva’s comments is considered strategic, possibly to generate a last-minute surge in ticket sales or pay-per-view buys.
Mike Johnson concluded his report with a strongly worded hint for fans, writing, “if you are hoping to see the prodigal son finally return home, I believe you will be happy if you order or attend Slammiversary.” If Styles does make an appearance, it will be his first time inside a TNA ring in over a decade—his last match for the company came in May 2013.
Styles is one of the most accomplished performers in TNA history, having held the NWA World Heavyweight, TNA World Heavyweight, and X-Division Championships during his original run. His return would undoubtedly be a major moment for both promotions, especially in light of WWE’s recent acquisition of TNA’s parent company earlier this year.
Styles remains active on WWE and is currently in a feud with Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio, with the two expected to square off at WWE SummerSlam in August. Whether his TNA return would lead to more appearances or simply be a one-off remains to be seen.
