Peter Rosenberg Blasts Goldberg for Complaints Over Retirement Send-Off – Peter Rosenberg has taken WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg to task following Goldberg’s recent criticism of how his retirement segment was handled at WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event.
In a social media video, Rosenberg reacted strongly to Goldberg’s comments from his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, where the former World Champion voiced frustration that his farewell speech was cut off during the NBC broadcast.
Rosenberg, who serves as a host on WWE’s Premium Live Event kickoff panels, didn’t mince words. “I cannot believe the complaints about his send off,” Rosenberg said. “Have you guys ever noticed that the people who are the most overbooked, the most over celebrated are always the ones who complain?”
He pointed out that Goldberg was given a featured match against World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER and more TV time than most performers receive in similar situations. “The man got a 15-minute match. It should have been a squash, let’s be honest,” Rosenberg added. “He should have gotten Goldberg’ed. He should have been speared and taken out. The man’s pushing 60 years old, hasn’t looked good in the ring, some would say, ever—but certainly not in the last few years.”
Goldberg had specifically voiced frustration that his mic was cut while he was addressing the live audience post-match. Rosenberg countered that by explaining how network television works. “NBC goes when the show ends, every single time. They do not wait. NBC. This is network TV. It’s not USA, it’s not Netflix. It’s NBC. They go when they go,” he said.
The ESPN personality continued by putting Goldberg’s situation into perspective. “Do you know how many people better than Goldberg, their send-off was ‘we wish them the best in their future endeavors?’” Rosenberg said. “Did this guy get to stand in the ring on national television? Have a send off? You should be thanking your lucky stars for the money you’ve made and the appreciation you’ve gotten, which many don’t even feel is fully deserved. To complain, I’m so disappointed.”
Goldberg’s match took place on Saturday, July 12, in the main event of Saturday Night’s Main Event, where he was defeated by GUNTHER. Following the bout, Goldberg was handed a microphone for what was positioned as his final WWE farewell. While the live NBC feed ended mid-speech, WWE later uploaded the complete segment online in full.
Despite the broadcast cut, many fans felt Goldberg received a respectful send-off—complete with an iconic walk to the ring, video tributes, and a final moment in the spotlight. However, Goldberg’s complaints have now sparked backlash from fans and personalities alike, with Rosenberg’s comments amplifying the sentiment that Goldberg should appreciate the platform he was given.
