Bret Hart on Vince McMahon Allegations: “He Became a Predator… It’s Inexcusable” – WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart has offered his blunt opinion on the disturbing allegations against former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, marking a rare and deeply personal comment on the ongoing scandal that has rocked the wrestling world.

During a recent appearance on The Rise Guys podcast, Hart addressed the lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant. Grant’s accusations against McMahon include sexual assault, sex trafficking, and emotional abuse, with former WWE executive John Laurinaitis also named in the case. McMahon resigned from WWE in January 2024 after the lawsuit was made public.

Hart, who has a storied and turbulent history with McMahon — most famously due to the 1997 Montreal Screwjob — made it clear that, despite their past, he could not defend what McMahon is being accused of.

“Everything that happened with John Laurinaitis and the things they were doing with that poor girl — shame on all of them. That’s just terrible. I’ve had my ups and downs with Vince, and in many ways, I do respect him. But at the same time, what happened is inexcusable. There’s no place for that,” Hart said.

He continued with an even more cutting statement: “I think Vince McMahon became a predator and used wrestling as the stage for all of his evil. This tells me that too much money can turn you into a bad person.”

Hart’s remarks are especially noteworthy given his long and complicated relationship with McMahon. After being infamously double-crossed in the Survivor Series 1997 main event, Hart left WWE and didn’t return until 2010. That return eventually saw him work with McMahon again on-screen, even leading to a WrestleMania match between the two.

The Montreal Screwjob remains one of the most controversial moments in wrestling history, and Hart’s infamous backstage punch to McMahon — which Hart has proudly referred to as a “perfect shot” — now resonates with new context in light of the current allegations.

While McMahon has denied all wrongdoing, the lawsuit against him remains active. WWE has since distanced itself from the former chairman, who no longer holds any executive role or creative influence within the company.

Hart’s comments reflect growing sentiment among fans and wrestlers alike — that the legacy of Vince McMahon is now permanently clouded by serious accusations that go far beyond scripted storylines and backstage politics.
