Bret Hart Praises Roman Reigns’ In-Ring Composure – WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart recently appeared on the Rosenberg Wrestling podcast with Peter Rosenberg, where he discussed his personal wrestling Mount Rushmore and shared his admiration for Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
When asked to name the four greatest wrestlers in his eyes—the equivalent of a Mount Rushmore in pro wrestling—Hart didn’t hesitate to name “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, a longtime rival with whom he shared several classic matches.
“He’s on my Mount Rushmore for sure,” Hart stated emphatically. Their legendary match at WrestleMania 13 remains one of the most critically acclaimed bouts in WWE history, often cited as a turning point in both their careers and a standard for storytelling in wrestling.
Perhaps more surprisingly, Hart acknowledged that Shawn Michaels, despite their well-documented personal and professional conflicts, also belongs in the conversation.
“I think that Shawn is in that conversation. I really do,” Hart admitted. “He had a lot of issues, personal issues, and things like that. But you can’t deny his body of work and just how good a wrestler he was.”
Hart and Michaels famously clashed both in and out of the ring, with tensions between the two culminating in the infamous Montreal Screwjob in 1997. While their relationship remained strained for years, both men have since acknowledged each other’s legacy, and Hart’s inclusion of Michaels in such a prestigious list speaks volumes about his respect for Michaels’ in-ring talent.
In addition to reflecting on past legends, Hart offered high praise for Roman Reigns, noting the poise and confidence the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion brings to his matches.
“When I watch a lot of the younger guys or the guys that have come up, I see that sort of erratic kind of panic sometimes, where they rush into stuff,” Hart said. “But when I see Roman Reigns wrestle, he’s always in control. He’s always very calm.”
Hart emphasized Reigns’ command of ring psychology and his ability to control the flow of a match.
“He’s always kind of already got it figured out what the next sequence of moves are going to be and how he’s going to do them and how he’s going to execute them. He just never seems to panic.”
Known for his technical expertise and methodical in-ring storytelling, Hart’s recognition of Reigns suggests that the current WWE main event star embodies qualities Hart holds in high regard.
As Reigns continues his historic title reign, praise from industry legends like Bret Hart further cements his place among the top stars of his generation.
