Backstage News and Speculation on Andrade’s Future with AEW – Andrade El Idolo seems poised to part ways with AEW, where he landed in 2021 following his WWE exit. Throughout his tenure, there have been indications of discontent and backstage friction.
In October 2022, an incident involving a reported altercation with Sammy Guevara led to Andrade’s departure for surgery to address a torn pectoral muscle. Although he returned in June, his references to WWE have fueled speculation about a potential return, particularly considering his wife, Charlotte Flair’s affiliation with the company. Presently, El Idolo is competing in the AEW Continental Classic’s Blue League.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Andrade’s AEW contract is nearing its end, potentially leading him back to CMLL (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre). Meltzer mentioned Andrade’s discussions with AAA but noted his inclination towards CMLL, where he initially started and wishes to return.
While there’s no firm decision yet about his next move, Meltzer highlighted Andrade’s awareness that if he were to consider WWE, returning to Arena Mexico would be off the table.
“He’s going back to CMLL. I’m not sure exactly what week, but probably relatively soon. It’s something he wants to do. His [AEW] deal is coming up relatively soon unless it’s extended or something because of time off for injuries or whatever. But he thinks his deal’s up pretty soon, so he wanted to go back [to CMLL] in case he ends up going to WWE. He’s not made a decision [about] what he’s doing next. He’s not signed a new deal, but if he does go to WWE, he knows he can’t go back to Arena Mexico.”
The exact status of Andrade’s contract remains uncertain, but indications suggest his departure from AEW may be imminent.
