Auschwitz Memorial Calls WWE Shameless For Using Its Image During WrestleMania

WWE Apologizes For Auschwitz Footage – WWE has issued a statement after an image of the Auschwitz concentration camp was used in a WrestleMania video package.

In an article published by the Washington Post on Friday, it was noted that a WWE spokesperson apologized for the footage being shown and called it an error. As we noted, The footage was shown in a Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio video package that aired on Peacock during the pre-show for the first night of WrestleMania 39. It was displayed while “Prison Dom” talked about having served “hard time.”

The image was replaced by the time the video package aired on the WrestleMania 39 main card.

“We had no knowledge of what was depicted,” WWE said in its statement. “As soon as we learned, it was removed immediately.”

The Auschwitz Memorial and Museum criticized WWE in a tweet on Wednesday, saying that using the footage was “shameless.”

“The fact that Auschwitz image was used to promote a WWE match is hard to call ‘an editing mistake’. Exploiting the site that became a symbol of enormous human tragedy is shameless and insults the memory of all victims of Auschwitz,” the tweet said.
