NXT Results – August 17, 2021 – We are at the Capitol Wrestling Centre and your announcers are Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph, and Beth Phoenix.

Diamond Mine is in the ring and Malcolm Bivens says if there is one thing he doesn’t like it is negativity.  KUSHIDA is a liar and coward.  If I was KUSHIDA, I wouldn’t want to defend my cruiserweight title against him either.  Roderick Strong, the Messiah of the Backbreaker and Conditioning King wants a match and Bivens says he wants to be paid.  It is Open Challenge season.

Ilja Dragunov makes his way to the ring.

Roderick Strong vs. Ilja Dragunov

They lock up and Dragunov with a take down but Strong with a front face lock.  Dragunov with a front face lock and Strong goes for the leg.  Strong with a back heel trip into a front face lock.  Strong with a wrist lock.  they lock up and Strong with a head and arm choke but Dragunov gets to the ropes.  Strong with a knee and chop.  Dragunov chops back and they go back and forth.  Strong sends Dragunov into the ropes throat first and Strong with kicks.   Strong goes for a full nelson but Dragunov with a waist lock.  Strong with a knee to the lower back.  Dragunov with a chop and Strong goes down.  Dragunov with a back senton.  Dragunov gets a near fall.  

Dragunov with a side head lock.  Dragunov with a take down and Strong with a head scissors.  Dragunov escapes and Strong with a forearm and chop.  Dragunov with an Irish whip that sends Strong sternum first into the chest followed by a knee and exploder.   Dragunov goes up top and he leaps over Strong.  Dragunov with a flying boot and then he goes for a deadlift German suplex but Strong holds on to the ropes.  Strong with an elbow and back heel kick.  Strong with a forearm and Dragunov with a back fist to the midsection.  Dragunov with knees and a knee lift that staggers Strong.  

Dragunov goes for Konstantin Special but Strong drop kicks Dragunov to the floor.  Dragunov with chops on the floor followed by a boot to the chest.  Dragunov is distracted by Suzuki and Strong sends Dragunov into the ring steps.  Strong with a uranage back breaker on the apron.  They return to the ring and Strong gets a near fall.  Strong with a forearm to the back and a rear chin lock.  Dragunov with a jaw breaker and chop.  Strong with a knee to the midsection followed by boots to the chest.  Strong with a drop kick for a near fall.  Strong chokes Dragunov in the ropes.  Strong with a forearm and he gets a near fall.  Dragunov with a forearm and Strong with a boot to the head.

Dragunov with forearms in the corner.  Strong kicks Dragunov in the knee and Strong follows with a KneeDT.  Strong with a knee bar.  Dragunov kicks Strong to escape the hold.  Dragunov with chops and forearms.  Dragunov with a take down and he gets a near fall.  Dragunov with a boot to the chest.  Strong with a belly-to-back suplex and he gets a near fall.  Strong with a seated abdominal stretch.  Dragunov with a rollup and elbows to the midsection and head.  Dragunov with a German suplex and he holds on.  Dragunov with another German suplex and he continues to hold on to Strong.  Strong with an elbow and forearms.  Strong with a back elbow and he misses a jumping knee.  Dragunov with an enzuigiri and a wrist clutch suplex.  

Dragunov bleeds from the forehead and he sets for Torpedo Moscow but Strong with a knee to the back.  Dragunov with Torpedo Moscow for the three count.

Winner:  Ilja Dragunov

After the match, Dragunov calls out WALTER and tells him to come out. WALTER does not come out to confront Ilja.

— Samoa Joe walks in the Most Dangerous Parking Lot in Sports Entertainment as we go to commercial.

— We are back and it is time to take a look at Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly with Prime Target.

We see their prior matches with Cole and Kyle with them at one match apiece.  We see how the stipulations came to be.  Kyle says the Undisputed Finale is the end of an era.  The end of The Era.  No matter the result, he walks away with closure. Adam Cole says when he thinks of everything the Undisputed Era did, you think you were a part of the journey.  Without me, you are nothing.  Without Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly is nothing.  You wouldn’t have made it to NXT without me.  You wouldn’t have won a title without me.  You wouldn’t be standing in a 15,000 seat arena hearing people chanting for the Undisputed Era.  You are not on my level.  I am a one in a lifetime superstar.

Cole says he ends Kyle O’Reilly at Takeover and that is Undisputed.

— Hit Row makes their way to the ring. We see what happened to Isaiah Scott two weeks ago at the hands of Santos Escobar.

B-Fab says Santos put his hands in Swerve’s mouth and pulled his grill out.  You thought you were playing games with us.  Adonis tells Legado not to play games with us.  Scott starts to talk and . . . 

Santos Escobar appears in the parking lot.  He says it was fun when he took your grill.  I may have gone too far.  Message received when you burned that mask.  I will return it to you but you come out because I don’t trust your crew.  No Joaquin and No Raul.  We can settle it like men.

Scott accepts the offer and goes to the MDPLISE.  Scott approaches Escobar and we see Wilde and Mendoza attack Scott from behind. Adonis and Dolla figure that they should go help Scott.  

Escobar goes for the teeth again and Dolla sends Wilde into the metal door.  Mendoza attacks Dolla and they send him into the gate.  B-Fab uses a pipe and then Scott pushes Escobar against the door.

Scott takes his grill back and sends him into the door one more time.

— We go to LA Knight working out and he is wiped down by Grimes.  Knight says he will miss this because he will be looking forward to the Million Dollar Butler. Knight offers Josh Briggs $10,000 to hurt Grimes.  He will pay him half before the match and then the rest when he is done with Grimes. Grimes brings Knight his water and Grimes is introduced to his opponent tonight.

We go to commercial.

— We are back and WALTER says tonight is not about him and Ilja.  It is about you two.  Barthel says they need to prove that this world does not need MSK.  Aichner says they will make an example of MSK.  WALTER says they are in this to protect the honor of this great sport.

Cameron Grimes vs. Josh Briggs

Ted DiBiase is at the announce table for the next match.

Grimes goes for the leg and then he applies a wrist lock but Briggs with a knee and running boot to the head.  Briggs with punches in the corner followed by a kick.  DiBiase bets Knight that Grimes wins the match.  Briggs with a side slam and splash for a near fall.  Briggs with a suplex but he runs into a boot in the corner.  Briggs catches Grimes off the turnbuckles but Grimes gets to his feet and he punches Briggs and hits a flying forearm or two.  Briggs grabs Grimes but Grimes escapes.  Grimes with a Spanish Fly cross body and Cave In for the three count.

Winner:  Cameron Grimes

After the match Knight hits DiBiase and refuses to pay off the bet.  Grimes with a head lock driver to Grimes on the floor.

— Johnny and Candice are in the back and Johnny talks about how Austin is still missing.  Indi mentions what she did with Dexter and she mentions getting matching tattoos.  Candice says she will not get a tattoo while living under the same roof.  Indi talks about going ot the next level. Johnny says they need to show what they can do together in the ring. Dexter shows up and Johnny asks how the cake tasted.  Indi says he had enough room for some pie.

We go to commercial.

— We are back with McKenzie and the NXT Women’s Tag Champions and she asks how their bonding is going.  Zoey says two women from different backgrounds who speak different languages, this friendship is not going to come in a day.  Io says she is not Zoey’s friend.  It is about them defending the titles.  Zoey says they need some work.

Jessi Kamea and Robert Stone vs. Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis

The men start things off and Stone dives for the ankle and Dexter looks at him like he is a fool.  Stone crawls away from Dexter and goes to the floor but Monet sends Stone back into the ring.  Dexter with a punch and then Indi punches Jessi and they kick in sync in opposite corners.  Stone and Kamea hit Dexter and Indi from behind as they approach each other.  Dexter pushes Stone down and Monet grabs the leg and Dexter pulls her into the ring.  The referee sends Franky to the back.  

We go to commercial.

We are back and Jessi with a top wrist lock.  We see footage from the break when Jessi pulled Indi to the mat.  Jessi pulls Indi to the mat by the hair again.  Indi avoids an elbow drop from Jessi.  Indi kicks Jessi away and Stone accidentally makes the tag.  Dexter with punches to Stone followed by a clothesline in the corner and a bulldog.  Lumis with a spinebuster and Jessi breaks up the cover but splashes Stone instead.  Indi tags in and clotheslines Jessi and then sends Stone to the floor.  Indi with a spinebuster for a near fall when Stone breaks up the cover.  Jessi kicks Indi’s hands and she slams Indi.  Jessi with a single leg crab but Indi gets to the ropes to force a break.

Jessi kicks Lumis off the apron and Stone with a pescado and he misses Lumis by three or four feet.  Jessi with a forearm to Lumis on the floor.  Indi sends Jsssi into the plexiglass.  Inid with a uranage into Silence and she taps out while Dexter does the same to Stone.

Winners:  Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis

Lumis crawls to Indi and then Indi crawls out of the ring and goes over to Beth who has some advice for her. Indi brings a box into the ring and she gets on her knees and prsents him with a ring and he says YES!

— We see Karrion Kross walking in the back as we go to commercial.

— We are back and McKenzie ambushes Roderick Strong about his loss.  Malcolm says that you talk to him.  Ilja is a heavyweight, not a cruiserweight so that match did not count.  Strong has a guaranteed match against KUSHIDA.

— Beth Phoenix asks Raquel Gonzales if she thought she would be standing across the ring from her best friend.  Raquel says she knew what she was getting into.  If Dakota could turn on Tegan, she knew it would happen to her.  Dakota asks where her crystal ball was when she knocked her out.  Raquel mentions that Dakota got a title match out of it and she wonders what took her so long.  Raquel says she has dominated the division.  She is not a star in the making, she is a super star.  You will not take the title from me.

Dakota calls Raquel delusional for thinking she is unbeatable.  She taught Raquel everything she knows, but not everything that Dakota knows.  You wanted to be a somebody.  I am the person who made you a somebody.  At Takeover, you will be the somebody who becomes champion.  Raquel asks who will be her next Raquel.  There is no one like her.  You might be one of the best but you don’t have a real bone in your body.  You use people and get jealous when they become bigger stars than you.  You are going to have to take care of this on your own after I have taken care of your problems.

Dakota tells Raquel to call her whatever she wants, but in five days you will call me NXT Women’s Champ.  Raquel says she is looking forward to the challenge.

Carmelo Hayes vs. Duke Hudson in a Breakout Tournament SemiFinal Match

They lock up and Hudson backs Hayes into the corner and Hayes escapes.  Hayes with a waist lock and Hudson tosses Hayes to the mat.  Hayes with a side head lock and Hudson with a shoulder tackle.  Hayes with a kick to the leg but Hudson kicks Hayes.  Hudson with a side head lock.  Hudson sends Hayes to the mat and returns to the side head lock.  Hayes with a side head lock.  Hudson with a belly-to-back suplex but Hayes lands on his feet and returns to the side head lock.

Hudson with a shoulder tackle and Hayes with a springboard forearm.  Hudson sends Hayes over the top rope to the floor.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Hudson with an abdominal stretch and he sends Hayes into the corner.  Hayes with a jaw breaker and enzuigiri that sends Hudson into the corner.  Hayes goes for an Irish whip but Hudson blocks it and he connects with a knee to the head and a clothesline in the corner.  Hudson with an overhead belly-to-belly suplex.  Hudson slaps Hayes and Hayes sends Hudson to the floor.  Hayes with a scissors kick as Hudson returns to the ring.   Hayes with kicks to the head while Hudson is on the apron.  Hayes with a slingshot DDT onto the apron.  Hayes with pucnhes to Hudson followed by a tilt-a-whirl waist lock take down for a near fall.  Hayes goes to the turnbuckles and Hudson goes for a press slam but Hayes with an inside cradle for a near fall.

Hayes with a bicycle kick followed by a codebreaker.  Hayes with a leg drop to the back of the head and he gets the three count.

Winner:  Carmelo Hayes (Advances to face Odyssey Jones in the Finals)

Samantha irvin is with Carmelo Hayes and she mentions his match against Odyssey Jones in the finals.  Hayes says he called his shot about making it to the finals and he is a man of his word.  He faced men who were two or three times his size and that wasn’t enough for him.  In the end, you have to face the final boss.  Odyssey Jones . . . plot twist because I am that final boss.

Odyssey Jones comes out and he laughs at what Hayes said.  After I win this tournament, the whole NXT Universe is going to sound the alarm.

— We have a video package for Jacy Jayne..  They are not going to be silenced.  They have been caged for far too long.  You are going to feel us in your soul when we break free.

— MSK are in the back as they prepare for their title match.

We go to commercial.

— We are back and Cameron Grimes is in the medical room.  Ted DiBiase shows up and says maybe they have bitten off more than they can chew.  Grimes says he got himself into this mess.  I came into a lot of money and I lost my mind.  I wanted to be the Million Dollar Champion and you gave me the opportunity.  However, I dropped the ball.  When I lost hope, the Million Dollar Man was there.  I am not a butler.  After Takeover, together we will be Million Dollar Champions going TO THE MOON.

MSK vs. Imperium for the NXT Men’s Tag Team Championship

Lee and Aichner start things off and Lee with a waist lock.  Aichner with a waist lock and he tosses Lee away but he lands on his feet.  They lock up and AIchner sends Lee to the mat.  Aichner misses a shoulder in the corner when Lee flaots over.  Lee with a side head lock.  Aichner blocks a boot and Lee with a crucifix for a near fall.  Lee with punches and Carter tags in.  Lee with a kick to the back of the head and Carter with a Bronco Buster.  Carter gets a near fall.  Barthel tags in and he gives Carter an arm drag into a hammer lock.  Barthel with a headstand to add more pressure to the hammer lock.  Barthel with a wrist lock.  Carter with an arm drag.  Barthel with a European uppercut.  Barthel with a snap mare and kick to teh back.

Barthel with an Irish whip  but he runs into a boot.  Carter with kicks and he comes off the turnbuckles but Barthel with a punch to the midsection and a butterfly suplex.  Barthel with an elbow to the bakc of the head and Aichner tags in.  Aichner with a chop and he goes for a slam but Carter gets to his feet and Lee tags in.  Carter and Lee with kicks and Carter with a double stomp to the back.  Barthel is sent over the top rope to the floor on a back body drop.  Lee and Carter go for suicide dives but Barthel and Aichner stop them and slam Carter and Lee on the floor.

Aichner brings Lee back into the ring and connects with a European uppercut.  Aichner with a tilt-a-whirl back breaker for a near fall.  Aichner with a short arm clothesline and Barthel tags in.  Barthel punches Lee.  Barthel with an Irish whip and European uppercut into the corner.  Barthel goes to the turnbuckles and hits a clothesline for a near fall.  Aichner tags back in and he connects with a forearm to the back.  Lee with punches but Aichner with a knee.  Lee lands on his feet on a belly-to-back suplex and applies a waist lock.  Aichner with a short arm clothesline in the corner for a near fall.  Barthel tags in and he applies a reverse chin lock.  

Lee with a snap mare and punches to Barthel.  Barthel avoids an enzuigiri and applies an ankle lock.  Lee rolls through and Barthel knocks Carter off the apron.  Barthel blocks a kick and returns to the ankle lock.  Aichner tags in and he biels Lee into the turnbuckles.  The referee checks on Lee.  Barthel tags in and they hit the double drop kick on Lee and Barthel gets a near fall.  Lee sends Barthel over the top rope to the floor and Lee kicks Aichner off the apron.

WALTER makes his way to the ring while Barthel keeps Lee from making the tag.  Aichner and Carter tag in and Carter with a clothesline and kicks followed by a drop kick.  Carter with a knee in the corner followed by a kick to the chest.  Lee tags in and Lee tosses Carter onto Barhtel and Lee gets a near fall.  WALTER gets in the ring and Carter is sent to the floor.

Dragunov attacks WALTER on the floor and WALTER slams Dragunov.  Barthel is kicked off the turnbuckles.  Carter tags in and they hit the blockbuster and spinebuster combination off the turnbuckles for the three count.

Winners:  MSK

After the match, WALTER works over Dragunov and then takes care of Lee and power bombs Carter on the apron.  Dragunov chops Aichner but WALTER chops Dragunov. WALTER with a sleeper on Dragunov.

— Samoa Joe and NXT Men’s Champion Karrion Kross walk in the back as we go to commercial.

— We are back and Pete Dunne says they warned you and let what he did to Ilja last week as a reason why you don’t come after us.  We don’t care how long Thatcher and Ciampa have been doing this.  Holland says he likes that they have the bollocks to challenge them.  Dunne pushes past tough men to get to a fight.  Holland says he will get there at Thatcher’s expense next week.

— The announcers run through the card for Takeover.

— We go back to the ring for tonight’s show-closing segment as Samoa Joe makes his way out to a pop. Joe takes the mic and calls out NXT Champion Karrion Kross, commenting on the venom that seeps from his lips when he talks to Kross. Joe says he thought he’d look more forward to tonight than he really does, one last face-to-face meeting before their big match, one last chance to verbally eviscerate Kross before the world, but he realized it’s pointless because he’s not a man here to hurt Kross’ feelings, he’s simply a man who’s here to hurt Kross. Fans chant “Joe’s gonna kill you!” now. Joe tells Kross to tuck his clock in his back pocket and stroll his ass down to the ring, young champ.

The music hits and out comes Kross by himself. A few fans chant for Jeff Hardy but it doesn’t last. Kross speaks from the stage and says Joe still doesn’t get it, it’s not about Joe, or even Kross, it’s about the future of this brand. Kross says Joe thinks he’s just going to walk into Takeover and win the title after taking a year off but Kross doesn’t think so. Kross says he’s going to now call NXT security to the ring. Fans boo. Kross says it’s protection for Joe, not Kross. Security guards stand at ringside now, in between Kross and the ring. Kross asks Joe if he really thinks he has a shot at Takeover.

Kross tells the fans no, Joe is not going to kill him. Kross slowly enters the ring now and says he’s going to drop Joe at Takeover, and drop him real fast. Joe attacks Kross. Security guards hit the apron but Joe knocks them and Kross to the floor. Joe runs the ropes and nails a big suicide dive to Kross and the guards. Fans pop as Joe beats Kross around the ringside area now. Kross grabs Joe and slams him face-first into the steel ring steps. Officials are trying to get Kross to stop. Kross brings Joe over to the announce table and tries to slam him through it but Joe fights back. Joe sends Kross face-first into the Plexiglas barrier, breaking it, then sends Kross over the barrier. Joe follows and keeps the fight going as officials, Superstars and security try to break it up. They go crashing back trough the barrier to the ringside area. Fans chant “NXT!” now. Kross and Joe are down at ringside with a few security guards. Officials check on them as Vic hypes Takeover 36 and the go-home show goes off the air.
