The original plan for WWE Crown Jewel 2026 was a far larger spectacle before locking in the current World Tag Team Championship match between champions Bron Breakker and Austin Theory against Penta and Je’Von Evans.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE originally planned a massive six-man tag team match featuring Penta, Evans, and Oba Femi taking on Breakker, Theory, and Bronson Reed at the November 7 Premium Live Event in Riyadh.
Why WWE Changed The Crown Jewel Match Plan
The original pitch would have added massive power to the feud by inserting Femi and Reed directly into the ongoing clash between Penta, Evans, and The Vision. However, WWE officials realized a fundamental flaw in the timing of the six-man tag match.
Meltzer reported that WWE creative felt it made little sense to run the six-man tag team bout before actually delivering the payoff for the World Tag Team Championship between the core teams.
That shift led management to finalize Breakker and Theory defending their tag titles directly against Penta and Evans. The two rival duos have been feuding for weeks, with Penta and Evans already owning a non-title pinfall victory over the champions.
While the decision temporarily leaves Femi and Reed off the Crown Jewel card, the scrapped draft gives WWE a clear direction to circle back to if tensions between the groups continue to escalate after Riyadh.
