An unexpected illness forced a major last-minute change to this week’s program, as Stephanie Vaquer was forced out of her advertised match on WWE Raw.
The October 26 episode was originally built around a high-stakes number one contender’s match between Vaquer and Becky Lynch. However, an unexpected illness prevented Vaquer from making the show, prompting creative to pivot toward a championship bout instead.
Lynch stepped into the main event to challenge Liv Morgan for the WWE Women’s World Championship, though the contest ended in a disqualification following outside interference from Judgment Day members Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez just as Lynch neared victory.
Update On Stephanie Vaquer’s Recovery And Return Timeline
Providing an update on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that while Vaquer’s illness is not considered severe, her exact return date remains open-ended.
“She’s ill. It’s not anything — I was told it’s nothing terribly serious or anything,” Meltzer stated. “But she’s ill and she’s out. Indefinitely in the sense that it’s not like it’s a week. It’s something that’s indeterminate yet as far as when she’ll be back.”
Meltzer confirmed that the absence was entirely legitimate and unrelated to any worked storyline or previous physical setbacks. The pivot to a disqualification finish was deliberately chosen to protect Lynch from taking a sudden loss in a match put together on short notice.
“But that’s why they didn’t do that match. It wasn’t about an injury, and it wasn’t a worked storyline. They were going to do the match on Monday night and she got sick and could not come. And that’s why they did the Becky Lynch-Liv Morgan. And that’s why they did the DQ, because they didn’t want to beat Becky Lynch. But it wasn’t a match that they had planned, so they did the DQ that way — to get out of it essentially.”
The setback adds to a physically demanding year for Vaquer across 2026, which included managing minor ankle and shoulder bumps. Although she had recently received medical clearance following a minor ankle issue sustained after WWE Money in the Bank on October 10, this current respiratory or acute illness has sidelined her indefinitely.
