Former NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo revealed in a recent interview that returning to his old Don character in WWE NXT remains a genuine possibility down the line, expressing full willingness to revisit or merge elements of his original mafia-inspired persona with his current “Master of Fate” presentation.
Speaking with Love Wrestling, D’Angelo reflected on his character shift following the breakup of The Family, which saw him transition into a grittier, more serious presentation. Looking back at the evolution, D’Angelo shared:
“I’d say it worked out. So like, I’m happy with it. If there’s ever a universe where maybe we could get back to the Don stuff or maybe morph, the two, I’d be a hundred percent open to it. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed, that part of my career. But until then we’re going to keep rocking with the Master of Fate.”
Legacy Concerns Take A Back Seat Ahead Of Halloween Havoc
Despite achieving major milestones across his run on the white-and-gold brand—including becoming NXT’s first-ever Grand Slam Champion—D’Angelo admitted he avoids getting wrapped up in debate over his place among the brand’s all-time elite.
“I try not to think of it, honestly. I’m just trying to keep my nose to the grindstone, and you know what? At the end of the day, if people want to say I’m one of the pillars or people held of high standard when it comes to NXT and championships and all that, then that would be awesome, and more power to me and my family and what I’ve done. But honestly, I’m not too focused on that.”
D’Angelo remains locked in on top-tier action, as he is set to challenge Grayson Waller for the NXT Championship tonight at WWE NXT Halloween Havoc 2026.
