WWE NXT General Manager Robert Stone has reflected on his current on-screen authority role, declaring his nine-month tenure as the brand’s leader to be the most fulfilling and enjoyable stretch of his entire 26-year professional wrestling career.
Since stepping into the position earlier this year—first as interim before officially taking over full-time authority—Stone has anchored television storylines, shared segments with Hall of Famers, and managed a rapidly evolving developmental roster.
“It’s A Dream Job”: Reflecting On A 26-Year Industry Journey
Speaking with Pro Wrestling Illustrated, Stone detailed his journey through independent circuits, TNA, and WWE, emphasizing that his current general manager duties stand out above all previous runs.
“I mean, it’s a dream job. It really is. It’s a dream come true. You know, I worked as a—I’ve been in the industry for 26 years, did independent wrestling for almost 10 years, TNA for almost eight years, and then now with WWE for over seven years,” Stone stated.
“When I look at all of that, everything in my career, I could honestly say the past seven months, well, nine months for two months, I was interim GM, the past nine months of being in this role have been the most rewarding, the most fun.”
Endorsements From William Regal And Working Alongside Shawn Michaels
Stone attributed much of the role’s fulfillment to working closely with legendary authority figures who shaped the brand’s identity, including NXT Senior Vice President Shawn Michaels and former long-time General Manager William Regal.
- Shawn Michaels Collaboration: Stone highlighted the privilege of performing in backstage comedy and authority segments alongside his childhood idol.
- William Regal’s Rub: Taking over the mantle required an explicit endorsement from Regal, cementing Stone’s place among iconic general managers across RAW, SmackDown, and NXT history.
Looking ahead, Stone expressed hope that his authority run remains a long-term fixture on Tuesday nights: “I’m hoping that I’m going to ride this till the wheels fall off. I’m hoping this is a long-lasting position that I’m in, and I hope in years and years to come, you’ll always remember that Robert Stone was the general manager of NXT and did a great job. Like, I feel like, you know, we’re just getting started.”
