Samuel Shaw Details Creative Surprise During The Syx’s TNA Debut

The mystery attackers who spent weeks targeting Matt and Jeff Hardy were recently unmasked as former Wyatt Sicks members Samuel Shaw (formerly Dexter Lumis) and Joseph Sawyer (formerly Joe Gacy). Re-emerging in TNA Wrestling as Syx, the duo debuted with a dark, gory presentation featuring chainsaws, blood, and video glitches—setting up a Falls Count Anywhere match against The Hardys at Bound for Glory.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio, Samuel Shaw revealed that much of the visual presentation for their debut came directly from concepts he and Sawyer pitched to TNA creative. The biggest surprise for the duo, however, was discovering that TNA management had quietly implemented their exact ideas without warning them beforehand.

Shaw recalled sketching the original concept on a napkin before presenting it to TNA officials:

“Yeah, look, I’m wearing brand-new Syx T-shirts. So this was a concept—I drew this up on a napkin at first, and I was like, ‘You know, if we just had Syx and it looked like the chainsaw coming through one of the letters,’ and they were immediately like, ‘Excellent.’ They’re like, ‘Make it a little more gory. Put some blood there.’ It’s something I couldn’t have gotten through in WWE. We got a bit of an edge now. They were all about this image.”

Upon arriving at the venue for their debut, Shaw and Sawyer were surprised to find official merchandise featuring Shaw’s design waiting in their locker room. The true moment of awe occurred when they walked out through the curtain during the live reveal.

“Our first day on the job, they have this shirt for me and Joe. Then we get out to the ring and we see up on the Tron all the ideas we pitched—like chainsaws, the glitching, the way that the lettering of the Syx on the screen—goosebumps again, because this is a reveal. But then I’m looking up at the Tron, and we didn’t even know if it was gonna be there. But that imagery, the things we had discussed, that’s all there. So amazing. We’re working in conjunction together to make this dream a reality.”

The collaborative debut showcases the creative freedom Shaw and Sawyer are enjoying in TNA following their WWE departure, paving the way for their high-stakes encounter against The Hardys this weekend.
