WWE is stacking the card for next week’s special international broadcast of Friday Night SmackDown on September 11, emanating live from the iconic Arena Mexico in Mexico City.
Following the events of the September 4 broadcast, the lineup features two world championship matches, a crossover tag team title defense, and a personal grudge match.
World Title Matches Headline Historic Card
The main event scene in Mexico City will feature high-stakes gold on the line across both divisions:
- Undisputed WWE Championship: CM Punk will put his title on the line against Sami Zayn. The match was made official after Zayn interfered on Johnny Gargano’s behalf in Punk’s title defense on SmackDown. Following his victory, Punk personally issued the challenge to Zayn to settle their issue south of the border.
- WWE Women’s Championship: Chelsea Green will defend her title against Nia Jax under strict medical conditions. On SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis brought Doctor Woodruff to the ring, who revealed that while Green’s fractured orbital bone is still healing, she is medically cleared to compete as long as she wears a protective face mask. Jax and Lash Legend interrupted the segment, prompting Aldis to sanction the title match for Mexico City.
Cross-Promotional Warfare & Personal Bitter Rivals
The undercard for SmackDown in Arena Mexico also brings cross-promotional title action alongside an intense personal feud:
- AAA World Tag Team Championship: The War Raiders (Erik and Ivar) defend their titles against the dynamic pairing of R-Truth and Damian Priest.
- Grudge Match: Paige collides with Nikki Bella following their explosive backstage confrontation on SmackDown, where Paige delivered a personal verbal tirade targeting Bella’s career and past relationship.
