Following a triumphant week of broadcasts in Mexico City that drew a combined attendance of 49,017 fans to Arena CDMX, TKO Group Holdings is already formulating plans for an even more ambitious return in 2027.
The three-event sweep began on Friday, September 11 with WWE SmackDown, continued on Sunday, September 13 with AAA Triplemanía 34: Night 2, and concluded on Monday, September 14 with WWE RAW.
Record Mexico Reports TKO Expansion Plans
According to a report from El Planchitas of RECORD Mexico, TKO executives were thoroughly impressed by the commercial performance and fan passion generated throughout the three-day weekend.
The current strategy involves locking in an annual September takeover in Mexico City, with potential plans to add UFC into the broadcast framework:
“WWE was so thrilled with the success of bringing together RAW, SmackDown, and Triplemanía that, I’m told, for 2027 the plan is to do it again, also in September, and maybe even add a UFC event. TKO struck gold in Mexico and wants the whole market.”
Three Nights of Historic Action
The proposed 2027 expansion follows a historic stretch of storytelling inside Arena CDMX:
- Friday Night SmackDown: The weekend kicked off with a shocker as Sami Zayn dethroned CM Punk to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship for the second time in his career.
- AAA Triplemanía 34 (Night 2): Lucha Libre AAA presented a sellout card headlined by El Grande Americano defeating Dominik Mysterio to become the new AAA Mega Champion.
- Monday Night RAW: The marathon wrapped up with Penta delivering a star-making performance against Roman Reigns, pushing “The Tribal Chief” to his absolute limits in front of a deafening hometown crowd.
If TKO finalizes the 2027 blueprint, fans could witness an unprecedented combat sports weekend uniting WWE, Lucha Libre AAA, and UFC under a single host city umbrella.
